Motor Vehicle Collision - Confirmed Entrapment

For immediate release: October 22, 2019 - 9:27am

At approximately 8:40 this morning, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle collision with confirmed entrapment on Avenue E North at 31st Street West.

One fire engine, one heavy rescue unit, and one battalion chief were dispatched for immediate response.

Upon arrival of the first responding fire crew, a Jeep Liberty transporting two occupants was confirmed to have struck a tree, trapping the female passenger inside. Firefighters immediately disconnected the battery and began preparing the vehicle for the extrication process. Fire crews initiated extrication using hydraulic rescue tools, removing the passenger side door and clearing access to the patient.

The male driver had exited the vehicle with what are believed to be minor injuries prior to the first fire crew arriving on scene while the extricated female passenger sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries; both are being transported to hospital by ambulance for additional medical treatment.

The scene has been left in the care of the Saskatoon Police Service for further investigation.
