Structure Fire - Injuries Reported - 2400 block of Kenderdine Road
At approximately 3:47 p.m. on May 6, 2020, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 hang-up providing minimal detail before the call was terminated. Using the information gathered, fire dispatchers alerted crews and support officials from six different fire stations to a possible structure fire in a multi-unit residential townhouse complex located in the 2400 block of Kenderdine Road.
Three fire engines, one rescue unit, one aerial ladder truck, one fire investigation unit, and support officials were dispatched for response.
Fire crews arrived on scene in less than two minutes to find light smoke exiting a residential townhouse; the occupants were self-evacuating. Firefighters immediately made entry and located a fire in the area of the stove that had extended to nearby cupboards. The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes of the first fire engine arriving on scene. Ventilation was conducted using electric fans to clear the townhouse of remaining smoke and carbon monoxide.
One occupant sustained serious burn injuries as a result of the fire and was transported to hospital for further treatment.
A fire investigator is working on scene to confirm a cause and assess the damage.
