At approximately 7:42 p.m. on May 6, 2020, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a single 911 call alerting to a kitchen fire in the 800 block of University Drive. It was reported to fire dispatchers that one occupant of the house had sustained an injury as a result of the fire.
Three fire engines, one rescue unit, one aerial ladder truck, one fire investigation unit, and one battalion chief were dispatched for response.
Upon arrival, fire crews observed a three-story residential house with no visible signs of smoke or fire; two occupants had already self-evacuated. The occupants had successfully used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out; however, one female occupant sustained minor burn injuries as a result. Firefighters used electric fans to fully ventilate a significant presence of smoke from the house.
A fire investigator has not yet confirmed a cause or damage estimate.
