What Are We Asking?

The City of Saskatoon is exploring opportunities and challenges to improve safety and capacity along Circle Drive from Laurier Drive to Idylwyld Drive (click link for map of study area). 

This work will ultimately result in a long-term plan that ties into previous studies along Circle Drive from Clancy Drive to Laurier Drive.

There will be multiple opportunities to have your voice heard in relation to this project from summer 2025 to spring 2026. 

To support the development of the functional plan, we will be engaging the community to understand:

• Current issues;
• Travel behavior;
• Gather feedback on initial ideas developed for the corridor; and,
• Gather feedback on the preferred plan.

What is the Project About?

Circle Drive from Laurier Drive to Idylwyld Drive is a critical link in the municipal and regional mobility network. This segment of Circle Drive currently presents operational and safety concerns for people travelling along and across the corridor. This work will ultimately result in a long-term plan that ties into previous studies along Circle Drive from Clancy Drive to Laurier Drive. The project has the following goals:

• Widen Circle Drive from a 4-lane roadway to a 6-lane roadway
• Achieve free-flow traffic between Laurier Drive and Avenue C by removing traffic signals and left-hand exits and entries
• Retain vehicle access at 33^rd Street W, Airport Drive, Avenue C North, and Idylwyld Drive
• Address safety and capacity issues
• Maintain existing active transportation connections and explore new connections
• Tie into existing approved plans along Circle Drive and Avenue C

Why Are We Doing This Work?

As Saskatoon and region grows, Circle Drive must continue to serve a high volume of vehicles in a safe and efficient manner. To do so, existing capacity constraints and safety concerns must be addressed. In 2022, City Council approved the recommended long-range plan to create a free-flowing Circle Drive from Clancy Drive to Laurier Drive, increasing vehicle capacity and addressing multi-modal safety issues.

This current project seeks to extend free-flowing conditions to Avenue C, improve vehicle capacity and address safety issues at the 33^rd Street West interchange, Idylwyld Drive interchange and intermediate intersections such as Airport Drive and Avenue C. A long-range corridor plan will help guide nearby development and provide a framework for the City when prioritizing and allocating funds to transportation construction projects.
