Prairieland Park leases the site at the corner of Ruth Street and Lorne Avenue from the City. The lease agreement states that all plans for additional development are subject to the prior written approval of City Council. Therefore, any new development proposals on the site require an amendment to the concept plan identified in the lease agreement prior to proceeding.

The concept plan was last amended in 2019 to accommodate the development of a new kitchen facility on the site.

Existing Approved Concept Plan

Prairieland Park has applied for a concept plan amendment to provide for the following changes to the site:

• Minor boundary alterations to the land leased in the south and southeast portion of the site to provide for a more functional site.
• Remove the Marquis Downs track and demolition of the grandstand and horse barns. Horse racing is no longer occurring at Marquis Downs and the buildings are past their serviceable life.
• Develop a gravel parking area on the area of the barns and grandstand.
• Construct a new 920 square metre (10,000 sq.ft.) building to replace the current Sports on Tap. The building would be constructed to the west of the current Sports on Tap facility and include approximately 8 outdoor beach volleyball courts.
• Minor changes on the site including a storage building for the horseshoe club, relocation of the Doukhobor building and additional washroom facilities.
