City crews addressing icy road conditions following overnight snow
City crews are clearing snow and slush and applying de-icing materials along Circle Drive and on high-traffic priority streets this morning after just under four centimetres of snow fell overnight. This work began early this morning as rain turned into snow starting at around 3 a.m.
Slushy snow and freezing temperatures are creating some slippery conditions at intersections, bridge decks, and on and off ramps. Drivers should adjust their driving for the road conditions, leaving extra room between vehicles and allowing extra time for their commute.
Today, there will be 20 sanders and 8 plows working to maintain City streets, as well as 9 sidewalk plows working to maintain City-maintained sidewalks and pathways. Watch for blue and amber flashing lights on snow maintenance equipment and give operators plenty of space to work.
