City of Saskatoon Recognizes Right to Know Week, September 28 to October 4

The City of Saskatoon is recognizing Right to Know Week from September 28 to October 4, 2026.

Right to Know Week is observed annually across Canada and coincides with the International Day for Universal Access to Information on September 28. The day raises awareness of the public’s right to access government information and the importance of transparency in public service.

Under The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (LAFOIP), anyone may request access to records in the possession or control of the City of Saskatoon.

The Act's established rules strike a balance between the public’s right to know and the individual’s right to privacy through:

• Freedom of Information: Improving openness and accountability of the City through the provision of legislated rights of access to municipal records; and
• Protection of Privacy: Preventing unauthorized collection, use or disclosure of personal information by the City.

Access to information helps residents understand how City decisions are made, how public funds are spent and how programs and services are delivered. It supports openness, accountability and public trust.

Many public records are also readily available at no charge on the City's website.
