Taxi fares updated for larger vehicles
A new fare structure for larger taxis in Saskatoon takes effect October 26, 2026, replacing the van rate that had been in place for approximately 20 years.
Under the previous system, van taxis charged 1.5 times the standard taxi fare when transporting more passengers or luggage than a sedan taxi could accommodate. The charge was intended to help recover the additional costs associated with operating a larger vehicle.
Beginning October 26, the Large Vehicle Fare of $9.50 will apply whenever a larger taxi, defined as a taxi with third-row seating, is requested directly through dispatch for any reason, or is hailed curbside with five or more passengers. The new fare more accurately reflects the current operating and ownership costs of larger vehicles compared to sedan taxis.
The updated fare structure provides greater consistency and transparency for passengers while ensuring fares better align with the cost of providing larger vehicle service. For more information visit Saskatoon.ca/vfh.
