Tree Planting Initiative Grows Urban Canopy at Herbert Stewart Park

The City of Saskatoon has enhanced Herbert Stewart Park with the addition of new trees through a community greening initiative made possible by funding from CN and Tree Canada.

The project supports the City of Saskatoon’s ongoing efforts to expand the urban forest, enhance biodiversity and create healthier, more resilient neighbourhood parks. The newly planted trees will provide environmental benefits for years to come, including increased shade, improved air quality, wildlife habitat and enhanced public green space.

“Trees are a valuable long-term investment in our community,” says Thai Hoang, Director of Parks. “This initiative will help grow Saskatoon’s urban canopy while creating a greener, more welcoming park for residents to enjoy. We are grateful to CN and Tree Canada for their support and commitment to healthy, sustainable communities.”

Funding was provided through CN EcoConnexions – From the Ground Up, a program delivered in partnership with Tree Canada that supports community tree planting and greening projects across Canada.

The newly planted trees will provide environmental benefits for years to come, including increased shade, improved air quality, wildlife habitat and enhanced public green space.

Herbert Stewart Park is among the neighbourhood parks that have received enhancements through the City’s Park Upgrade Program, which funds improvements to established parks to address deficiencies and bring them up to current standards. The tree planting complements these broader improvements and contributes to an enhanced park experience for residents.

The City of Saskatoon continues to work with community organizations, residents and funding partners to protect and expand urban green spaces throughout the city.
