PROPOSED ZONING BYLAW TEXT AMENDMENT – COMMUNITY PARKLETS
Proposed amendments introduce a new framework for converting curbside parking spaces into community parklet spaces. Community parklets may include features such as seating, landscaping, programmable event space, artwork, and passive or interactive displays. These features will be permitted in any zoning district, subject to other policy requirements and guidelines. Complementary amendments to Council policy are also proposed.
REASON FOR THE AMENDMENT – The temporary rental of curbside parking spaces for non-business purposes is not currently regulated in the Zoning Bylaw. A new category for community parklets is required to regulate these features separately from commercial parking patios.
