COVID-19 Response: Business License Program
Update - June 3, 2020
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, changes to the business licensing process have been implemented as follows:
- Effective June 8, 2020, the City will resume mailing business license renewal notices. Business owners who would have received a notice in April or May should expect to receive their notice shortly.
- Commercial and Home Based Licenses can be renewed online at saskatoon.ca/businesslicenseonline or by mail. At this time, business license renewal applications cannot be submitted in person at City Hall. Business owners can contact business licensing staff at 306-975-2760 or email@example.com for further information.
- Non-Resident Business license renewals can be submitted by mail to Corporate Revenue for processing. Please contact Corporate Revenue at 306-975-2400 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions about a non-resident business license renewal or about obtaining a new non-resident business license.
Business operators can apply for and renew a commercial or home based business license online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A commercial or home based business must be physically located in Saskatoon.
With Business License Online you can:
- Apply and pay by credit card for a new business license application
- Renew and pay by credit card for an existing business license
- Check business license application status
- Notify our office of a change in location to an existing business
NOTE: If you do not have a renewal form or currently hold a business license, but request to update a business name or change of ownership details, please call or email Business License Program first.
This online service is intended for businesses operating in Saskatoon that have a permanent Saskatoon business location. Non-resident (or out-of-town) businesses must apply or renew with Revenue Division, City of Saskatoon.
To use the Business License Online service, you need to have a public website account on Saskatoon.ca. If you already have a website account (e.g. you pay your City of Saskatoon utility bill online, etc.) then you will not be required to register again. If you don’t have an account yet, you will need to create one.

Is the Business License Online service available to all business owners?
This service is available to commercial or home based business owners operating from a physical address in Saskatoon. If your business premise is not located in Saskatoon, contact the Revenue Division at 306-975-2400 for assistance. Licenses for non-resident contractors, direct sellers, transient traders, farmers’ markets, trade shows, and taxicabs must be applied for in person or by mail to the Revenue Division. Licenses for food trucks, vending carts, sidewalk cafes, parking patios and adult services must be applied for in person or by mail to the Business License Program.
Will I get a receipt?
Yes. A successful credit card transaction will generate an electronic receipt sent to your email address. If you did not receive an email receipt, please contact our office. Please take note of the date and time you submitted your online application for reference.
Is my credit card and personal information protected?
Yes. The City of Saskatoon takes measures to protect your information by using secure servers hosted by our payment provider. Your credit card information is processed securely in real time using the latest available encryption technology and is compliant under Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI). Verify that a lock icon is on your browser status bar when submitting payment information to identify the form is secure.
I registered a long time ago and I have forgotten my username and password. What can I do?
You can reset your password by correctly answering the security question connected with your account. A temporary password will be sent to the email address registered with the account. Check the email and follow the instructions to log into your Identity Services account. The email also provides instructions on how to change the password. Please note that passwords are case sensitive.
How do I renew my business license online?
The City of Saskatoon will mail you a renewal notice in the month prior to the expiration of your business license. Instructions to renew online are printed in the top right-hand corner of the renewal notice. You will need the Business License Account Number, Business ID and Web Code in order to log into your online renewal account. This information is provided on your renewal notice.
Can I check the status of my application or renewal online?
Yes. To check the status of your application or renewal, log back into your Identity Services account and click on My Activity at the top of the screen. All active business license accounts will be shown along with their current status.
How long will it take for my online business license application or renewal to be processed?
Business licenses are processed in the order they are received and during the COVID-19 pandemic will take approximately 10-15 business days to issue. Once approved, your business license will be mailed to you.
What if I have more than one business or more than one location?
If you own more than one business, a separate license is required for each type of business and each location. You will need to complete a separate business license online application for each location. A business license is only valid for the address that is shown on the license.
I paid more than once. What do I do?
Contact the Business License Program to make arrangements for a refund of the overpayment.
