Background
What is the Ernest Lindner Park Upgrade Project?
Starting in summer 2026, the City will begin upgrading Ernest Lindner Park. This project will address areas that need improvement, such as pathways and tree health, and bring the park up to current standards. These updates are part of the City’s Park Upgrade Program, which focuses on renewing and improving existing parks. This project is being funded in part by the Government of Canada through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
What upgrades are planned?
The upgrades planned for Ernest Lindner Park include:
- Upgraded pathways
- New site furniture
- Updated irrigation system
- Enhanced plantings throughout the park, including trees
Some trees and shrubs will be removed due to their health however, our main goal is to always leave a park with more trees.
When will the upgrade take place?
Construction will occur in summer 2026 to minimize disruption to the schools, with estimated dates being July to October 2026. During this time, the entire park will be closed. In 2027, parts of the park will remain closed to support establishment of the upgrades, especially those related to tree and shrub planting.
A more detailed schedule will be posted on this page once the City has received a construction schedule from the contractor.
Why does the entire park need to be closed?
During construction from July to October 2026, the entire park needs to be closed to ensure public safety. In 2027, portions of the park, including the school playgrounds and sports fields, will become available for use as it becomes safe to use these areas. We will be working with the schools, Community Association and user groups to try to limit the impacts of the construction timeline as best as possible.
Why will the playgrounds, sports fields and Spray Pad be closed?
During construction from July to October 2026, the entire park needs to be closed to ensure public safety. Construction near these areas includes a new water service and irrigation system, necessitating their closure to allow the contractor to work efficiently and store materials safely. Some amenities will re-open in 2027, and the City will provide updates as construction progresses.
How will I know when things re-open?
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to improve Ernest Lindner Park. More information will be posted to this webpage as the project progresses.
