Repairs being completed to water system in Arbor Creek
August 27, 2026 - 3:30pm
The water circulation system serving John Avant Park and Arbor Creek remains offline while repairs are assessed and completed.
Reduced water flow in the creek was initially believed to be caused by sediment buildup in the pond. During maintenance work that began in mid-June, crews identified a failure in the creek bed that required significant repairs. Creek rehabilitation work is underway, and the City is coordinating pond pump intake cleaning for the second week of September. The intake cleaning is expected to be completed alongside the rehabilitation work.
If no unexpected issues arise, the water system is expected to be back up and running once repairs are complete in mid-September.
The City appreciates residents' patience and understanding as this work progresses.

City Council approves temporary Shaw Centre classroom rental agreement
August 27, 2026 - 1:45pm
City Council has approved a temporary facility-use agreement with Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools (GSCS) to provide classroom space at Shaw Centre for Bethlehem Catholic High School following the fire on August 7, 2026.
The fire caused fire, smoke and water damage to Bethlehem Catholic High School’s attached relocatable classrooms, as well as smoke and water damage in portions of the main school. The temporary agreement will support GSCS as it works to accommodate students and resume school operations.
Under the agreement, designated meeting rooms and multi-purpose space at Shaw Centre will be used as temporary classrooms beginning August 31 through December 31, 2026. The agreement may be extended to the end of the 2026/27 school year if needed and if both parties agree.
The City and GSCS have had a long-standing partnership at the joint-use facility, which includes Shaw Centre, Bethlehem Catholic High School and Tommy Douglas High School. Supporting GSCS during this emergency reflects the City of Saskatoon’s commitment to community safety and well-being through strong local partnerships.
The use of Shaw Centre space for temporary classrooms will affect some fall leisure drop-in programs and room-rental opportunities. Drop-in programs with either move to Cosmo Civic Centre or be rescheduled at Shaw Centre for a different time or day. Patrons are encouraged to check dropinschedule.saskatoon.ca for program updates.
The City appreciates the community’s understanding and flexibility as it supports Bethlehem Catholic High School.
City invites public input on future tax policy; survey to launch fall 2026
August 27, 2026 - 10:07am
The City of Saskatoon is preparing to engage residents, residential and non-residential property owners and renters on the principles, goals and trade-offs City Council may consider when developing a future (property) tax policy.
The City’s tax policy Engage page is now available; it provides residents and stakeholders with background information and an overview of the project’s scope, including the areas where public input will be considered. The tax policy public online survey opens in October 2026. Paper copies of the survey will be available.
The tax policy engagement is focused on how the total municipal property tax revenue requirement, set through the City’s budget process, is shared between residential and non-residential properties. The tax policy engagement project will not decide or influence the City's budget process, service levels, individual property assessments or appeals.
Non-residential properties are sometimes collectively called commercial properties. This tax class includes commercial and industrial properties, agricultural land, elevators, pipelines and railways. Non-profit is not a property tax class.
Reassessment updates property values, and some property types may increase in value faster than others. Tax policy can help manage change in the share of municipal property tax paid by the residential and non-residential property classes as a result of reassessment. All property types in Saskatchewan will be reassessed in 2029.
City Council has historically set a tax ratio at the start of each legislated four-year reassessment cycle. In April 2025, City Council set the current tax ratio at 1.71:1. This means that for every $1.00 in property tax paid by a residential property owner, a non-residential property owner pays $1.71 on an equivalent assessment.
The tax ratio approach distributes the overall municipal property tax requirement between property classes. It does not change the total amount of municipal property tax revenue collected by the City.
Public input received on tax policy principles, goals and trade-offs will help the City understand community priorities, including where residential and non-residential property owner perspectives align and where they differ.
Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to visit the City’s Engage page to review the information and prepare to participate in the October tax policy survey.

City Council approves Climate Action Strategy
August 26, 2026 - 4:00pm
25-year roadmap supports a safer, healthier and more prosperous Saskatoon
Saskatoon City Council has approved the City’s Climate Action Strategy, a 25-year framework that will help the community prepare for the impact of climate change while supporting a safer, healthier and more prosperous future.
The Strategy includes two complementary playbooks: one focused on reducing carbon pollution and another focused on helping Saskatoon adapt to climate-related risks such as extreme heat, flooding, wildfire smoke and severe storms. Guided by principles of equity, reconciliation, prosperity and miyo-pimâtisiwin (the good life), the Strategy supports both corporate leadership and community action.
“Preparing for climate impacts is part of responsible long-term planning,” said Director of Sustainability Jeanna South. “The Climate Action Strategy helps the City identify opportunities to reduce risks, make informed investments and protect the infrastructure and services residents depend on every day.”
The Strategy identifies potential actions that can be considered over time as community needs, technology and funding opportunities evolve. Examples include integrating climate risk into City planning and infrastructure projects, expanding the urban forest, supporting food security initiatives, improving energy efficiency and strengthening community resilience.
Council’s approval of the Strategy does not approve or fund specific projects. Individual initiatives will be considered separately through future decision-making, budgeting and public engagement processes.
The Climate Action Strategy positions Saskatoon to proactively address climate-related risks and changing environmental conditions while supporting a resilient economy, healthy neighbourhoods and reliable municipal services. By taking a long-term approach, the City can better protect community assets, reduce future costs and help ensure Saskatoon remains a safe, vibrant place to live for generations to come.
