BizWiz

Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional waste accounts for approximately 68% of the garbage in Saskatoon. Much of what is going to the landfill as garbage could be recycled, composted or reused, extending the life of the landfill.
The BizWiz has created a directory to help your business, company, organization or institution do their part to put waste in the right place.
Does your company accept these items or other recyclables/reusables from Saskatoon businesses and want to be added to the listings below? Let us know at business.waste@saskatoon.ca
Disclaimer: We work hard to keep listings current, but services can change. Please contact providers directly to confirm they’re still accepting these materials from Saskatoon businesses. The Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council’s recycling database lists additional drop off locations for many reusable and recyclable items.
Recycling
Waste Haulers
To contract Recycling Service, inquire with one of the following private waste haulers:
Self-Haul
Self-hauling is a great solution for businesses and organizations that generate small volumes of mixed recyclable materials that are clean. Businesses have the option to take these materials (paper and cardboard, food and beverage glass, aluminum foil and tin cans, and plastic containers ♻ #1-7) to one of the two public recycling depots in Saskatoon at no cost:
Cosmopolitan Industries
1300 block Ontario Avenue
Loraas Recycle
1902 1st Avenue North
- Place shredded paper in a clear, tied plastic bag.
- Remove caps from milk jugs and beverage containers, give them a quick rinse, flatten them, and they'll be ready to recycle.
- Flatten all cardboard boxes.
Even if you self-haul your recyclables to an approved depot, you must still:
- Have separate labelled containers for garbage and recycling
- Educate employees/tenants annually about which materials are recyclable and how to sort them
To let us know you do not have commercial recycling services at your place of business due to self-hauling or repurposing of materials, you can fill out the optional Self-Hauling Declaration Form.

Clean Fill (Dirt)
The Saskatoon Regional Waste Management Centre (Landfill) accepts clean soil, also called clean fill, free of charge. There is an approval process for the acceptance of clean soil at the landfill.
Clean soil cannot be mixed with:

- Branches
- Concrete
- Asphalt
- Metal parts and pieces

- Rocks greater than four (4) inches in diameter
- Refuse and garbage

Approval Process for Soil Delivery
When is approval required?
- Soil deliveries originating from a single property that will exceed 10 loads from a single site must be pre-approved.
- Single loads from residential sites or loads from private citizens are exempt from the process.
If you will have less than 10 loads per day from a single site, and answer ‘Yes’ to the following questions, call the Landfill Operations Engineer at 306-975-2476 for confirmation that the soil is acceptable at the landfill.
- Does the soil contain or has the potential to contain non-natural chemical substances, has there been any fuel, oil, or any other chemicals spilled on the soil (before or after being loaded into the truck)?
- Does the soil originate from a property that is, was, or adjacent to a gas station?
If you have more than 10 loads per day from a single site, complete the Soil Delivery Application.
- All applicants will be required to have a landfill business account number that will be used to track soil deliveries.
- If the total soil quantity from a single source site exceeds 1000 tonnes (1600 m3), a unique project number may be required; haulers will not be able to use their business account number.
- Call 306-975-2486 to request an account number.
MRC staff reserve the right to refuse any soil or to impose charges if the soil is not clean.
Clothing and Textiles
Donation for reuse is the preferred diversion option. Many community organizations and individuals could put gently used items to use. For example, a local hotel donates their gently used linens to local communities including First Nations. Many donation options exist in our community, including community organizations and thrift stores.
Call one of the following organizations for pickup. Your donations generate funding to support these organizations.
Community Living - 1-877-477-2171
Canadian Diabetes Association - 1-800-505-5525
*If planning to drop off large amounts to community organizations or thrift stores, please call ahead to ensure they can manage the donation.

Cosmopolitan Industries – 306-664-3158
Sask Abilities Council – 306-653-1694
Construction and Demolition Waste
Properly managing your construction and demolition waste demonstrates your organization’s commitment to sustainability and our community, and can also you’re your bottom line, conserve natural resources, and save valuable space in our landfills. The Saskatoon Homebuilder Waste Guide provides waste management best practices for construction, renovation and demolition projects to meet or exceed City of Saskatoon Bylaw requirements.
For proper waste management Contractors should:
- Provide appropriate on-site collection containers for recycling and waste.
- Remove containers regularly from the worksite.
- Dispose of waste in approved facilities.
- Retain copies of all waste records for materials disposed or recycled.
Contractor must not:

To contract Construction Waste services, inquire with one of the following private waste haulers:
Concrete & Brick
Can be taken to the Scale & Pay area at the Saskatoon Material Recovery Centre and Landfill. It must be weighed in. There is a decreased tipping fee of $50/tonne to incentivize recycling and increased diversion from the landfill.
Please note that City of Saskatoon Landfill does NOT accept asbestos waste. Please refer to the Asbestos Awareness page on our website for more information, and consult our Asbestos listing above.
Electronics
Electronic waste (e-waste) includes electronic equipment, such as smart devices and used cables, as well as smart bulbs and fluorescent lights. E-waste and batteries, if not managed properly, can be harmful to human health and to the environment. If your electronic items are not at the end of their useful life, you are encouraged to explore reuse opportunities including donating them to family members, friends or authorized Reuse Organizations. The Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA) Saskatchewan program is designed to manage end-of-life electronic products that have exhausted their reuse potential.
EPRA Saskatchewan will help you safely manage your end-of-life electronics, including office products like printers and phone systems.

Elm Wood
You can help prevent DED by disposing of elm wood immediately at the Saskatoon Landfill. The disposal fee for all elm wood (commercial and residential loads) will be waived. This initiative aims to encourage the prompt and proper disposal of elm wood, reducing the risk of disease transmission to healthy elm trees. The City wants to remind people that an elm pruning ban is in place each year from April 1 until August 31; however, this new initiative means that any elm wood that has been completely removed, previously been cut, has fallen or was intended as firewood can be disposed of for free.
If you have elm wood, it must be disposed of immediately and properly to help prevent the spread of Dutch Elm Disease. It is illegal to store, use, sell or transport elm wood. It must be disposed of at a designated elm wood disposal site such as the landfill immediately. It must be disposed of at the landfill or at the transfer bins in Scale & Pay. For more information on Dutch Elm Disease and how to identify it, click here.
Per the Dutch Elm Regulations, every person who prunes or removes an elm tree shall dispose of the elm tree by transporting it to the nearest elm tree disposal site for the municipality in which the elm tree is located during the next operating hours of the elm tree disposal site after the pruning or removal of the elm tree. The disposal site for Saskatoon is the landfill.
NOTE: Disposal fees are waived for all loads of elm wood only. Mixed loads of landscaping waste that include elm will be subject to regular disposal fees.
To help control the spread of DED the City has drafted a guide for arboricultural and landscaping service providers.

Liquid Waste
*Disposal of liquid waste into the sanitary sewer is regulated by the Sewer Use Bylaw, 2017.
A Special Discharge Permit from the City is required for all non-domestic wastewater disposal into the sanitary sewer. Liquid wastes may require testing and certification, by a certified laboratory, before disposal.

If you cause a spill or discover one in the storm water system or in the South Saskatchewan River, please report it.
