Firefighters found a pickup truck involved in a collision with a house 

 

Action(s) Taken:

Fire crews assisted occupant of truck out of vehicle 

Occupant was assessed by fire medics and turned over to ambulance for transport

House was assessed for structural integrity

 

More Information:
  • A search confirmed all occupants safely evacuated.
  • The scene was turned over to Saskatoon Police Service for further investigation.

Vehicle in water - East on Highway 16

Fire crews observed a vehicle in a slough

Action(s) Taken:
  • On arrival police informed fire crews the driver had self-extricated from vehicle

  • Fire crews in water rescue personal protective equipment entered the water to confirm no other occupants were in the water or vehicle

More Information:
  • The scene was turned over to RCMP for further investigation.

Structure fire 1400 block Ave B North

Firefighters observed heavy smoke and fire coming from the back yard shed and large tree

Fire extended to two houses 

Action(s) Taken:

Crews advanced multiple hose lines to apply water to the exterior of two houses while another crew entered the house to search and confirm no occupants remained inside.

Hose lines were used to extinguish a large tree and two sheds in the back yards

  • A search confirmed all occupants safely evacuated.
  • There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

  • Fire crews advanced handlines to apply water from exterior prior to making entry.
  • Fire crews performed search of single-family home and confirmed no occupants inside structure.
  • Fire crews set up large fans to remove smoke and toxins from structure.

Boarded up house fire – 100 block of Ave U North

Firefighters observed smoke and flames coming from the home and garage

Action(s) Taken:
  • Crews advanced hose lines to apply water to the exterior fire of the boarded up house
  • Crews performed a defensive fire attack 
  • Another crew removed boards from the house to gain access to check for fire extension to the interior
  • Crews gained access to the attic with a chain saw, to fully extinguish the fire and remove smoke
  • Crews made entry to check for occupants inside as there was evidence of access to the back of the house

  • Firefighters observed smoke and flames on the outside of commercial structure, right next to exterior wall of structure 
Action(s) Taken:
  • Crews advanced multiple hose lines to apply water the fire
  • Crews noticed a gas line was affected by the fire and was leaking
  • Crew entered structure to check for Natural gas in building- none found
  • Crew waited on scene with SaskEnergy until they stopped the natural gas flow

Saskatoon Fire - Thunderstorm Response

Scene Upon Arrival:
  • Saskatoon Fire Department responded to 34 incidents related to city thunderstorm.
Action(s) Taken:
  • Saskatoon Fire Department Communications Centre dispatched and monitored 34 incidents in 90 minutes for Saskatoon Fire units to respond.
  • SFD Communications Centre also dispatched and monitored multiple rural fire department responses for cities of Warman, Martensville, Osler and Dalmeny.
  • SFD crews responded to multiple electrical hazards - power lines down/arcing - COS Light and Power and SaskPower responding to remedy.
  • SFD crews responded to multiple small fires caused by downed lines.
  • At time of Fire Bulletin - many areas of Saskatoon without power due to electrical service lines down.

Apartment fire - 100 block Avenue O South

Firefighters observed smoke and flame coming from third floor suite of apartment building 

Action(s) Taken:

Fire crews advanced hose lines to exterior and applied water through the fire suite window 

Crews entered the apartment building and advanced hose lines to suite on third floor to extinguish fire 

A search was performed to confirm no occupant remained inside building 

Fire crews set up large fans to remove any lingering smoke and toxins from the building
