South Grass Fire
August 20, 2024 - 5:13 pm
At 3:37 p.m., the Saskatoon Fire Department received a report of smoke showing South of the city off Highway 11 and West of Victor Road. Upon arrival, first arriving fire crews identified a field on fire. Fire crews were on scene at 3:50 p.m. The Battalion Chief requested additional resources for water supply. Fire had gotten into some brush. Crews began ensuring no occupants or structures were threatened. Fire quickly spread to other sections of land due to wind gusting up to 48 km/hr.
An hour into the incident, another fire service was requested to assist from Clavet.
This is an active fire at this time, the SFD has three fire engines, two tanker trucks, two brush trucks, the Battalion and Deputy Chief on scene along with our mobile command unit.

Structure Fire - Rupert Drive

- Fire crews remain on scene.
- A fire investigator is on scene to conduct an examination to identify the cause, origin and damage estimate.
First arriving firefighters observed flames showing from a duplex.
Crews advanced hose lines to knock down flames.
Firefighters entered the structure and located one occupant in the basement.
The occupant was removed from the structure and turned over to ambulance.
Multi-unit residential structure fire - 300 block 2nd Avenue South

- One fire engine dispatched for alarm bells ringing.
- On arrival crews identified a small amount of smoke coming from the roof
- Requested additional apparatus to respond.
- Crews investigated and found one room to have a light haze and felt slightly warmer.
- Upon opening the ceiling space crews found a fire that had been burning in the joist space.
- Crews extinguished the fire by opening the ceiling and the floor from the suite above to access the fire.
- Fire Investigator has deemed the fire accidental caused by an electrical malfunction and it originated in the concealed joist space between the ceiling and floor above.
- 4 suites sustained damage as a result of the fire
- The damage is estimated to be $150,000
- 38 individuals were displaced, and the properties agent has confirmed that they were able to find suitable accommodations for all 38 individuals.
- The fire has been completely extinguished.
- There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
Structure Fire - 200 Block Gray Ave.

- A search confirmed all occupants safely evacuated.
- There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
- Fire crews remain on scene.
- A fire investigator is on scene to conduct an examination to identify the cause, origin and damage estimate.

Firefighters observed a duplex fully involved and one unit of a second duplex also involved.
Crews advanced hose lines for an exterior attack.
An aerial ladder was set up to extinguish the fire from above.

Firefighters observed smoke and fire coming from the rear of large commercial building
Crews advanced a hose line to apply water to flames from exterior and then made entry into structure to continue to apply water
