The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to five separate reports of garbage or recycling bins on fire between the hours of 2:30 a.m. and 5:45 am on February 14, 2020.

Incident Timeline:

2:30 a.m. - one fire engine is dispatched to the 900 block of Avenue J South for reports of a household recycling bin on fire.

February 14, 2020 - 11:18am

On February 14, 2020 at approximately 4:10 this morning, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a possible structure fire at a home under construction at 1247 Avenue J South. 

Three fire engines, one aerial ladder truck, one rescue unit, one fire investigation unit, and one battalion chief were dispatched for response.

February 14, 2020 - 9:47am

On February 14, 2020 at approximately 6:21 a.m., the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting an industrial structure fire at Shercom Industries Inc., located on Township Road 382 in Corman Park.

Three fire engines, one aerial ladder truck, one rescue unit, one water tanker, and one battalion chief were dispatched for immediate response. One haz-mat unit was later dispatched and placed on stand-by on scene. Two assistant chiefs have also responded to the fire scene to assume safety officer and public information officer functions on scene.

February 14, 2020 - 8:57am

At Approximately 03:50 this morning, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a report of a garage fire. Three Engine Companies, one Ladder Company, one Rescue Truck and the Battalion Chief responded.

On arrival, smoke was coming from the detached garage.

Fire Crews made entry and the fire extinguished. There was no extension to the home.

A Fire Investigator was called to the scene. A cause and damage estimate has not been given. There were no reported injuries. 

 

February 13, 2020 - 5:22am

The Saskatoon Fire Department wishes to correct the number of patients involved in this collision; the SUV involved was traveling with two occupants, not three as was previously reported.

In total, three patients from two vehicles were involved in this collision.

February 10, 2020 - 4:24pm

At approximately 1:20 p.m. on February 10, 2020, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 11 and Grasswood Road. It was reported to fire dispatchers that two vehicles were involved in the collision, one vehicle was smoking, and that multiple occupants remained trapped.

February 8, 2020 - 2:37pm

Saskatoon Fire Department received multiple 911 calls at approx. 12:05 this afternoon, reporting a house on fire at 2509 Woodward Avenue. Three Engines, one Ladder Company, one Rescue Unit, and the Battalion Chief responded to the scene.

Crews arrived on scene in less than three minutes and noted smoke and flame from the front and back of the attached garage of this single family house. Incident command was notified that all occupants of the home had been evacuated.

February 8, 2020 - 2:30pm

The Saskatoon fire Department responded to a reported house fire in the 1900 Block of 22nd Street West at approximately 2:40 this morning.

February 7, 2020 - 4:29am

The Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call at 9:15 am reporting flames coming from a house at 317 of Avenue P South.  Dispatched to the scene were 3 Engines plus a Ladder truck, a Rescue truck, a Battalion Chief and a Fire Investigator.  First arriving personnel observed smoke showing at the rear of a house.  Further investigation discovered a small fire originating in an unused coal chute – which was quickly put out.

Saskatoon Fire Department crews responded to 2 house fires,a garage fire and dumpster fire with in a hour of each other this morning.

Apartment fire at 530 25th Street East

For immediate release: January 26, 2020

At 3: 23 this afternoon the Saskatoon Fire Department received a residential fire signal at a thirteen story residential apartment building.  The initial arriving Engine company officer found nothing showing from the exterior of the building.  Crews entering the building located smoke on the third floor from a fire confined to a single residential suite.  Fire crews evacuated most residents from the building, those with mobility issues were sheltered in their suites.

January 26, 2020 - 6:54pm

One year ago, on January 22, 2019 at approximately 9:26 in the morning, a 52-car Canadian National Railway (CN) train transporting grain product derailed across a major thoroughfare north of Saskatoon. The Saskatoon Fire Department responded with 18 different fire apparatus staffed by dozens of firefighters. Working together with neighbouring fire departments, crews worked from both sides of the derailed train to neutralize the hazard. Four news releases were issued by the Saskatoon Fire Department, the agency in command of the incident throughout its duration.

Just before 8:00 PM this evening, Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the 1700 block of Avenue C North. Three Engines, one Ladder Truck, one Rescue Unit, and a Battalion Chief were dispatched. The first Engine was on scene in less than three minutes.
