Unknown substance reported on Jessop Avenue

At 11:30 am The Saskatoon Fire Department received notification of an unknown substance delivered to a business on the 300 block of Jessop Avenue. Dispatched to the scene are one engine, the hazmat and decontamination units, mobile command and the battalion chief.
Hazmat technicians are preparing to enter the hot zone to begin examination of the product while. As a precaution, firefighter/paramedics are assessing individuals who were have been in close contact with the substance. No injuries or illness were presented.

Multi vehicle accident

Saskatoon Fire Department received an EMS notification of a motor vehicle collision involving multiple semi tractor-trailer units in the vicinity of College Drive and Circle Drive. Dispatched to the scene were two engines, a rescue and a battalion chief.
Upon arrival firefighters found three semi tractors with B-trains involved in a collision. Firefighters remain on scene.
Townhouse fire on Berini Drive

At approximately 7:15 p.m. on October 18, 2020, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a fire in the kitchen of a home on 300 block of Berini Drive. Three fire engines, one rescue unit, one aerial ladder truck, one fire investigation unit, and one battalion chief responded.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke while staging on the street. A crew was tasked with advancing a hose line into a residence and found fire in the kitchen. At the same time, firefighter/paramedics examined the lone occupant for injuries and finding none, released the patient.
The fire investigator has completed the on scene examination has determined the fire to be accidental caused by overheated grease. This fire caused an estimated $7500.00 damage
Update - Structure fire – 600 block of Avenue F North

The fire investigator has concluded the on scene examination and has concluded the fire started as a result of an unattended candle left in a main floor bedroom.
It is estimated the damage caused by this fire to be approximately $250,000.00.
The Saskatoon Fire Department reminds everyone not to leave candles unattended.

The occupants of the house had evacuated prior to our arrival after being warned by the smoke alarm.
A crew of firefighters advanced a hose line to apply water the exterior fire while another crew entered the building to search and confirm no occupants remained inside. Crews remain on scene search for hotspots to ensure total extinguishment.
Also, fire investigator is on scene to determine cause of the fire.

Update - Structure fire – 600 block of Avenue F North

The Saskatoon Fire Department attended a two storey residential structure observing smoke while on route and arrived in less than 4 minutes to find fire on exterior of the building.
The occupants of the house had evacuated prior to our arrival after being warned by the smoke alarm.
A crew of firefighters advanced a hose line to apply water the exterior fire while another crew entered the building to search and confirm no occupants remained inside. Crews remain on scene search for hotspots to ensure total extinguishment.
A fire investigator is also on scene to determine cause of the fire.

Structure fire – 600 block of Avenue F North

At approximately 9:04 a.m. on October 9, 2020 the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a fire in the 600 block of Avenue F North. Four fire engines, one rescue unit, one aerial ladder truck, one fire investigation unit, and one battalion chief were dispatched for response.
Firefighters are on scene.

UPDATE - SALVAGE YARD FIRE
October 2, 2020 - 7:58 am
The Saskatoon Fire Department was released from the scene at approximately 8:40 p.m. on October 1, 2020. All apparatus were returned and placed back into commission to continue service to the citizens of Saskatoon. The Martensville Fire Department remains at the site.
As this area is outside of the Saskatoon Fire Department's investigative jurisdiction, a cause and damage estimate will not be provided.

At approximately 2:07 p.m. on October 1, 2020, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a call from the Martensville Fire Department requesting mutual aid with a fire located north of the city adjacent to Highway 12 in a salvage yard. One engine, one tanker and one brush truck were dispatched to provide assistance.
Upon arrival, firefighters were presented with fire that was fueled by a very large pile of combustible debris. A Saskatoon Fire Department officer indicated the fire had progressed deep into the pile making it difficult to effectively apply water. Heavy equipment is being used to dig into the pile to reach the deeper seated areas of fire, and to create a fire break between the pile and an adjacent building.
It is expected firefighters will be on scene through the night to help bring this blaze under control.
Further updates will be provided and more information becomes available.
Salvage Yard Fire

At approximately 2:07 p.m. on October 1, 2020, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a call from the Martensville Fire Department requesting mutual aid with a fire located north of the city adjacent to Highway 12 in a salvage yard. One engine, one tanker and one brush truck were dispatched to provide assistance.

Equipment Fire - Range Road 3043 and Township Road 382

At approximately 6:03 p.m. on September 30, 2020, the Saskatoon Fire Department received notification from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) that a piece of hay and forage baling equipment was on fire in a rural yard northeast of Saskatoon near Range Road 3043 and Township Road 382. A 911 caller on scene also reported surrounding grass on fire and one nearby structure to be potentially threatened by flames. One fire engine, two water tankers, two brush trucks, and one battalion chief responded.
Firefighters arrived on scene and positioned themselves to immediately protect surrounding exposures. Fire crews operating brush trucks moved across the rural terrain extinguishing flames throughout the yard; a consistent water supply was shuttled to the fire scene using water tankers. The fire was quickly brought under control with assistance from the local community. Firefighters concluded their work on scene and returned to their stations by about 9:11 p.m.. There were no structures lost or damaged as a result of this incident and no injuries were reported.
As this area is outside of the Saskatoon Fire Department's investigative jurisdiction, a cause and damage estimate will not be provided.
Motor Vehicle Collision - Confirmed Entrapment - Idylwyld Drive South near 20th Street East

At approximately 8:29 a.m. on September 27, 2020, the Saskatoon Fire Department received multiple 911 calls reporting a head-on collision involving two vehicles on Idylwyld Drive South near 20th Street East; callers reported one occupant to be trapped inside one of the vehicles involved. One fire engine, one rescue unit, and one battalion chief responded.
Arriving on scene in less than one minute, firefighters located two heavily damaged vehicles and a significant amount of debris. Bystanders had assisted the driver and lone occupant from one vehicle as fire crews made contact with the trapped driver and lone occupant of the second; quickly stabilizing the patient and vehicle in preparation for the extrication process, firefighters then removed the driver-side door and manipulated the interior construction of the vehicle to access and remove the patient inside. Both patients were transported to hospital by ground ambulance with undetermined injuries.
Fire crews performed fluid and debris clean-up prior to leaving the scene with the Saskatoon Police Service and returning to their stations to continue proudly serving Saskatoon and area.
