Rock Your Roots Walk for Reconciliation 2025 taking place June 20

June 19, 2025 - 1:00pm

ST-11169
June 19, 2025 - 1:00 pm

This news release is being sent on behalf of Reconciliation Saskatoon.

Reconciliation Saskatoon invites everyone in the community to join the 2025 Rock Your Roots: Walk for Reconciliation on June 20. The Rock Your Roots Walk is usually held on National Indigenous Peoples Day, which is a Saturday this year. Holding the walk a day early allows schools to participate.

Event Details:
Friday, June 20
Walk starts at 10:30 a.m., program starts at 11:45 a.m.
Victoria Park

This walk brings the community together to honour the truth of the Residential schools and those who survived them, as well as demonstrate our collective commitment to reconciliation. This year’s theme is “waniskâk” which means “everyone wake up”.

After the walk, Reconciliation Saskatoon will host a program and activities in the park, thanks to the generous donations and support from the many community investors who have come on board to make this year’s growing event a success.

Those in attendance will have an opportunity to enjoy some performances and to listen to Elders and Residential School Survivors about the importance of reconciliation and sharing this information with the next generation.

Participants of the walk are invited to “Rock Your Roots” by wearing orange or contemporary/cultural regalia or carrying signs that celebrate their heritage.

Reconciliation Saskatoon recognizes the incredible support of Community Investors that make this walk possible. For the full list of supporters and all event details visit: Reconciliation Saskatoon | Facebook

Rock Your Roots is organized by Reconciliation Saskatoon, which is co-chaired by the City of Saskatoon. The intent of this event is to answer the TRC Calls to Action by demonstrating a commitment to Reconciliation, honouring Residential School Survivors, and continuing work towards an inclusive community. The walk has been an annual one in Saskatoon since 2016.

Saskatoon Transit warns public to be aware of a Go-Pass fare scam

June 17, 2025 - 2:09pm

TC25-11160
June 17, 2025 - 2:09 pm

Saskatoon Transit is warning residents of a “Go-Pass Smart Card” fare scam on social media and through a fraudulent website.

A fraudulent social media account is advertising a scam offer for a $4.00 Go-Pass that supposedly provides six months of unlimited travel. Additionally, a linked website falsely impersonates as an official Saskatoon Transit page. This deceptive tactic seeks to mislead individuals into purchasing a fake pass and sharing their personal information.

To find the complete list of fare prices for Saskatoon Transit, visit: saskatoontransit.ca/fares-passes.

How to identify a potential scam:

  • The scam offers seem too good to be true.
  • The website may not be an official webpage or social media account page.
  • Requests for personal or financial information are a red flag.

Helpful reminders to help protect residents from potential scammers:

  • The City never requests or collects credit card, bank accounts or any sort of personal information from customers via phone, text, social media, or email.
  • Never give out your personal or banking information, or credit card number over the phone, by text, on social media, by email, or on a non-trusted website. It is a best practice to block suspicious phone numbers, email addresses or social media accounts and delete them after reporting.
  • Do not click on suspicious web links.
  • Always verify information from trusted sources:
    • Official website:
      • saskatoon.ca
      • saskatoontransit.ca or transit.saskatoon.ca
    • Social media channels:
      • @cityofsaskatoon
      • @stoontransit

Scammers typically use the information gathered to get money or commit identity theft.

Residents should contact their bank if they have become a victim of fraud and report these types of phone or online scams to Saskatoon Police Service at saskatoonpolice.ca/onlinereporting/fraud/ or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, 1-888-495-8501.

Concerned residents may also call the City of Saskatoon to speak with a Customer Service Representative at 306-975-2400.
