SASKATOON TRANSIT OFFERS 'SAFEBUS' TO TRICK OR TREATERS THIS HALLOWEEN
October 29, 2014 - 12:00pm
This Halloween, parents are reminded to tell their little trick or treaters that Saskatoon Transit’s SafeBus Program is there to help if they are in trouble. Children can get on a bus at any bus stop if they are lost, cold, frightened, hurt, or in trouble. Transit operators have direct 911 access to call for assistance.
Children asking for help do not need money to get on a SafeBus. To get an approaching bus operator’s attention, children in need of assistance should stand on the sidewalk and hold their hand up as the bus approaches. The operator will recognize this as a sign of distress and stop to help. The City reminds all parents to tell their children to never step onto the roadway to flag down a bus as this is very dangerous.
The SafeBus Program is part of the City of Saskatoon's ongoing commitment to improving the safety of citizens and enhancing the quality of life in Saskatoon.
For more information on this program, please call Transit Customer Service at 306-975-3100 or visit www.saskatoon.ca and click on “S” for SafeBus.
The City of Saskatoon and Saskatoon Transit wish everyone a safe and fun Halloween.

REMINDER: OPEN HOUSE: PROPOSED REGULATIONS FOR PRIMARY DWELLINGS - THURSDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2014
October 28, 2014 - 12:00pm
The City of Saskatoon’s (City) Planning and Development Division is proposing changes to the Zoning Bylaw to ensure infill development in established residential areas is more compatible with existing neighbourhood development.
The changes have been recommended as part of the City’s Neighbourhood Level Infill Strategy, which was approved by Council in December 2013. The strategy recommends amending the development standards contained in the Zoning Bylaw for primary dwellings (one-unit, two-unit, and semi-detached).
Residents are invited to attend an open house to learn more about the proposed bylaw amendments, including development standards, design guidelines, and the approval process. Presentations will be made at 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Civic staff will be in attendance to provide information, answer questions, and gather feedback.
Open House for the Proposed Regulations for Primary Dwellings
Thursday, October 30, 2014
5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Presentations will occur at 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Mayfair Library
306 - 33rd Street West
Following the open house, event materials will be available on www.saskatoon.ca (click on “I” for Infill Development Strategy).
The Neighbourhood Level Infill Strategy is one component of “Growing Forward! Shaping Saskatoon”, a public planning initiative to help guide civic infrastructure investments as Saskatoon grows to half a million people over the next 30 to 40 years.

CITY OF SASKATOON’S PLACEMAKER PROGRAM RELOCATES TWO SCULPTURES AND INSTALLS TWO NEW ARTWORKS
October 28, 2014 - 12:00pm
Two sculptures, part of the City of Saskatoon’s (City) temporary public art Placemaker Program, are being relocated as determined by the City’s Visual Arts Placement Jury (VAPJ). During the annual review of the collection, VAPJ considers the potential of new locations for existing artworks. The changes will provide artwork to the Sutherland Business Improvement District (BID) and Mayfair area; allowing the City to provide new artwork in the Riversdale BID and River Landing. The initiative to relocate art responds to requests from public consultations in 2013 to have public art in a variety of locations.
Harvest Collector, by local artist Leslie Potter, exhibited since 2010 in the Farmers Market was installed October 3, 2014, in the Mayfair Neighbourhood at 33rd Street and Avenue C. It has been exhibited since 2010, in the Farmers Market area. The artist’s description of the work represents his vision for the art. “The gentle and colourful nature of this sculpture creates many variations: a big hay rake, a sheaf of wheat, or perhaps a kind of vessel that gathers food.”
Dream Walker, by Leslie Potter, will be relocated from 20th Street West near White Buffalo Youth Lodge to Central Avenue at the beginning of November. It has been located on 20th Street West since 2006. The artist describes the piece, “The soft colours and quirky gestures of this sculpture are integrated to provide a gentle quietude.”
In addition, the City is also pleased to announce the installation of two new artworks.
Dapplers, by Leslie Potter, will be installed on 20th Street West near Station 20 West in November. It is comprised of two playful and colourful abstract animals made from steel and cement. It will be installed for three years.
We are all Linked, by Monique Martin, will be installed throughout Saskatoon in December. It is comprised of interlocked hexagons made of clay and covered in beeswax, and installed in trees at various locations. Many community members have participated in workshops with the artist to make the components of the installation. It will be installed for the winter season.
Plaques with artwork title, artist name, and statement will be installed with each piece.
