Special Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day this Saturday, August 15
August 10, 2026 - 1:00pm
- The program is open to residents with household products only – no commercial loads will be accepted.
- Containers used for transporting HHW may not be returned to participants and those used for transporting gasoline will NOT be returned.
- Please ensure all containers are safely sealed and contents are clearly marked.
- To avoid potentially long line-ups and wait times, ask the Waste Wizard at saskatoon.ca/wastewizard to find other options for recycling and safe disposal.
- There are no public washrooms available at the MRC.
The City of Saskatoon is excited to share the continued success of the residential Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) drop-off program. Since its return in May, we've seen an amazing response from residents committed to the proper and safe disposal of household hazardous waste.
HHW is accepted every Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Material Recovery Centre (MRC), located at 42 Valley Road.
As a reminder, this program is seasonal and the last drop-off day of the year will be Wednesday, October 28, 2026 (subject to weather).
The City will once again offer two special weekend drop-off days for more convenience. The first event takes place this Saturday, August 15, with a second event on Saturday, September 26. Both events run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Sort & Go at the MRC.
The HHW collection program makes it easier for residents to safely dispose of items that should not go in regular waste carts or bins because they can harm the environment, pose risks to public health and create safety hazards for staff.
Accepted items include aerosols, automotive fluids, cleaners, cylinders, light bulbs, yard chemicals and more. Complete lists of acceptable and unacceptable items are available at saskatoon.ca/hazardouswaste.
Batteries are one of the most commonly dropped off items at HHW drop-off days. Worth noting, they are accepted daily for free at Sort & Go at the MRC. Batteries can also be dropped off at any SARCAN depot. You can also visit recycleyourbatteries.ca to find other drop-off locations in your area.
The City encourages residents to take advantage of this free service to ensure these harmful materials are handled and disposed of safely.
Reminders:
Thank you for helping us put waste in the right place!
Update: Highway 16 to reopen at Boychuk Drive
August 9, 2026 - 11:32am
Highway 16 eastbound and westbound lanes are set to be reopened at the Boychuk Drive overpass by 1 p.m. today, August 9. A full closure of Highway 16 was put in place earlier this morning in response to a motor vehicle collision, diverting traffic onto the exit ramps.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation while crews performed necessary work.

Highway 16 road closed at Boychuk Drive
August 9, 2026 - 4:36am
Highway 16 eastbound and westbound lanes have been closed at the Boychuk Drive overpass due to a motor vehicle collision. All vehicles must use the exit ramps to continue eastbound and westbound on Highway 16. Detours are in place, and motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes. This project is expected to take 8 hours to complete, barring unforeseen circumstances or weather delays.
Northbound and southbound traffic on Boychuk Drive has not been impacted.
