2015 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK ACTIVITIES
September 30, 2015 - 8:31am
The Saskatoon Fire Department has outlined activities and events planned throughout National Fire Prevention Week, which runs from October 4 to 10 this year. The theme for the week is “Hear the Beep Where you Sleep, Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm”.
On Sunday, October 4, the department is hosting an Open House at Fire Station No. 1 between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. The Open House will include live burn, fire extinguisher and sprinkler demonstrations as well as an opportunity to shoot water at targets, tour a fire truck, and stand in the bucket of an aerial truck.
“Last year over 500 people attended the Open House and we are expecting even more this year,” says Assistant Chief of Communications and Public Relations, Dave Bykowy. “Fire Prevention Week gives us an opportunity to showcase what we have, explain what we do, and answer any questions citizens may have.”
In addition to the Open House, the department is also offering fire truck tours at specific fire stations between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. from Monday to Thursday:

FINAL FLEXPARKING PAY STATIONS TO BE ACTIVATED IN THE SUTHERLAND AREA
September 29, 2015 - 10:00am
As the City of Saskatoon (City) finalizes the rollout of the FlexParking program, the final 13 pay stations will be activated on Wednesday, September 30, in the Sutherland area.
Important tips and reminders:
1. Have your licence plate number handy; you’ll need it at every transaction.
2. Don’t forget to note the maximum allowable time where you’re parking; you can only park as long as the sign indicates, regardless of how much time you buy.
3. You don’t need to display a dashboard ticket; your plate provides proof of payment.
4. Balances on your parking purchase can be carried forward to any space that’s been switched over to the new system; balances cannot be applied to coin-metered spaces.
5. You can buy additional parking time up to the posted maximum allowable time.
The City’s Disability and Veteran Parking Permit Program remains unchanged, and drivers are still required to display their placards.
For more information, including a map of where the new FlexParking pay stations are installed, as well as frequently asked questions, please visit saskatoon.ca/flexparking or call 306-975-2548.
