Bus service to G-Eazy

Direct service from the Special Events Stop (23rd Street and 2nd Avenue) to see G-Eazy at SaskTel Centre on Friday, July 25 at 8:00 p.m., is available at the following times:

6:45 p.m.
7:25 p.m.

Post-event drop-off is at the downtown terminal and regular fares apply ($3.00 per trip). Fare can be purchased on your mobile phone using either the TGo or transit app, transfers and passes are also accepted. Typically, buses arrive onsite 30 minutes prior to the end of the event.

Plan your trip to events at SaskTel Centre on Route 333 using the Transit app up to two weeks in advance. Check out the Transit+ feature to help make connections that combine Transit with OnDemand Transit, riide, and Uber. Download the Transit app from the Apple Store or Google Play.

The City of Saskatoon will have several adjusted civic services and hours of operation on the civic holiday, Saskatchewan Day, Monday, August 4.

CITY HALL

City Hall will be closed on Monday, August 4, and will reopen on Tuesday, August 5, at 8 a.m.

ROADWAY DETOURS & CLOSURES

REMAI MODERN 

Remai Modern will be closed on Monday, August 4.

SASKATOON PUBLIC LIBRARY

All Saskatoon Public Library locations will be closed on Monday, August 4. During July and August, all libraries are closed on Sundays.  

SASKATOON TRANSIT

Fixed-route transit will run holiday service hours on Monday, August 4, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (normal fares apply).

Please consult the mobile app transit to plan your trip.

OnDemand service will not be available on Monday, August 4.

Access Transit will operate holiday service hours on Monday, August 4, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Trips must be booked in advance as per normal procedures.

Transit Customer Service Centre will be closed for walk-in customers on Monday, August 4, but phone lines (306-975-3100) will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Motorists are reminded that all other parking requirements remain in effect, including parking time limits.

Reminder: Permit required for work near City trees

Trees on City property–such as boulevards, medians, parks and natural areas–are valuable assets and an integral part of Saskatoon’s urban forest. The City’s Tree Protection Bylaw is there to protect trees located on City property.

Residents and contractors are reminded that a Tree Permit is required for any construction, major landscaping or demolition work within six metres of a City tree. This includes placing heavy equipment or materials near a tree, unless they are on a paved surface like a driveway, street or path. Tree Permits are free and typically processed within four business days.

The Bylaw also prohibits several activities without prior approval from the City. These include but are not limited to:

Pruning, removing or relocating a City tree

Applying pesticides or harmful chemicals

Interfering with a tree’s access to water, air or nutrients

Removing protective barriers

Carving into the bark or attaching items to the tree

A permit is not required in the following situations:

Placing lights or extension cords on a City tree during the winter months (October to March), provided they do not pose a hazard or harm the tree

Minor landscaping such as hand digging or mowing

Trees in back lanes

Federal funding will support community safety and homelessness data research in Saskatoon

City agencies team up with a Wilfrid Laurier University researcher to build a data-sharing framework – the first of its kind in Canada – which will help develop better solutions for community safety and homelessness.

The City of Saskatoon, in partnership with the Saskatoon Police Service, the Saskatoon Fire Department, and Dr. Tarah Hodgkinson of Wilfrid Laurier University, have been awarded $200,000 in federal funding for a three-year Partnership Development Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

“All of our organizations and service providers are often serving the same individuals who receive supports throughout the community,” says Deputy Fire Chief Yvonne Raymer. “Despite significant overlap, data sharing restrictions can prevent us from being able to share important information with each other, reduce service overlap, and coordinate our efforts to help people in the most effective way.”

Deputy Police Chief Darren Pringle says the project will help the City, Police and Fire work better together, and with their partners.

“Data restriction can lead to inefficient service delivery, service duplication, and interfere with efforts that could lead to more sustainable solutions that improve quality of life for people experiencing homelessness as well as the broader community.”

Meanwhile, this project continues a productive cooperation with Wilfrid Laurier University.

“This project builds on a ten-year relationship the City of Saskatoon has with Dr. Hodgkinson,” says Lesley Anderson, Director of Planning and Development. “It also strengthens the coordinated community safety work among the City, Police, and Fire, who have been working together since 2022.”

The coordinated community safety work has been focused on improving data collection, planning, and communications to provide a more consistent approach in working with other community partners, orders of government, and the Saskatoon public.

“This project in Saskatoon will be the first of its kind in Canada to support integrated and data-driven municipal approaches to the issues of community safety and homelessness,” says Dr. Hodgkinson. “It has the potential to be transferable to other municipalities in Canada, to support secure and de-identified data-sharing, advance evidence-based crime prevention policies in other jurisdictions, and improve municipal service delivery across Canada.”

The project will also create essential long-term pathways for secure data sharing through a non-biased third party—Dr. Hodgkinson and the secure data centre located at Wilfrid Laurier University’s Centre for Research on Security Practices (CRSP).
