Heavy Rain Update
September 8, 2026 - 12:08pm
- Avoid flooded areas altogether if possible.
- If there are barricaded areas, do not remove barricades or drive into the area.
- Stay out of the water whether you are in your car or if you are on foot.
- Be mindful to avoid flooded areas on your commute to/from work or school – stay up to date with Service Alerts.
- If you encounter flooding on a street, take an alternate route, as deep water can damage a vehicle and cause it to stall.
- Do not remove manhole covers – it can be dangerous. Contact the City instead at 306-975-2476.
- Do not go near drainage areas in parks and follow all signage in parks that may direct you to not enter when flooding occurs – these areas can also be very hazardous in storm-flow conditions
- Emergencies: report stranded vehicles, missing or popped manholes and street or underpass flooding to the City of Saskatoon’s 24-Hour Customer Service Centre at 306-975-2476. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency.
Yesterday, September 7, Saskatoon experienced heavy rain in all areas of the city with upwards of 80 millimetres received. City crews worked throughout the evening and overnight to address flooded intersections, popped manhole covers and other flood-related issues on roadways.
Water has receded from flooded streets and most intersections were clear for today’s commute. At this time, the Hampton Village lift station serving the west side remains near capacity.
Leisure Facilities
Facilities are open today with regular operating hours. However the track at the Saskatoon Field House is closed as an exception due to water seepage. Please follow the City’s Service Alerts for the latest updates.
City Flood Protection Infrastructure
Currently, the City’s infrastructure continues to keep up with yesterday’s flood water, but we are monitoring the conditions very closely. More rain is forecast for Saskatoon and area this week and the system will need several days to recover from Monday’s rainfall. Residents can help by reducing the use of washing machines and dishwashers or by flushing toilets only when absolutely necessary.
Dry storm ponds at Churchill, Weaver and W.W. Ashley Parks worked as intended and protected area properties. Dry storm ponds are designed to hold water that would otherwise cause nearby flooding during intense rainfalls. The water flows from properties and roads into the dry storm pond, then slowly drains into the storm sewer.
Be Prepared & Keep Safe
When a rain event such as this occurs, there are things we can all do to keep safe:
Home Flood Protection
To reduce the risk of damage to property, residents should ensure downspouts disperse water at least two metres (six feet) away from the home foundation. Downpours like this can drop a tremendous amount of water in a relatively short period of time. All homes – even those that have never flooded before may have water seep in.
The City has information available for impacted residents on saskatoon.ca/homefloodprotection.
Scheduled tree maintenance begins in Buena Vista, Holliston, Wildwood and Riversdale
September 8, 2026 - 9:00am
Starting Tuesday, September 8, 2026, crews will begin pruning trees on civic property in Buena Vista, Holliston, Wildwood and Riversdale as part of the City's Boulevard Tree Maintenance Program. Tree maintenance in these neighbourhoods will continue until December 15, 2026.
The Boulevard Tree Maintenance Program follows a regular pruning cycle to help preserve the health of the City's tree inventory, eliminate hazards and provide clearance from buildings, signs, streetlights and utility wires.
Tree maintenance often requires road restrictions. The City reminds pedestrians, cyclists and drivers to ensure safety is a priority by respecting the work zone and obeying all road restrictions and signage.
For more information, visit saskatoon.ca/treemaintenance.
Clarence Avenue and College Drive intersection reopens to traffic
September 7, 2026 - 3:57pm
The intersection of Clarence Avenue and College Drive has reopened for vehicle traffic, as well as all four lanes of College Drive between the University Bridge and Hospital Drive, following construction work in the area.
Drivers should continue to follow posted signage and use caution while travelling through the area, as construction remains ongoing nearby, and traffic restrictions with one lane of traffic in each direction are still in place between Hospital Drive and Cumberland Avenue.
The exit from the University Bridge to Saskatchewan Crescent remains closed.
University Drive between Elliott Street and College Drive remains closed.
Wiggins Road north into the University of Saskatchewan campus is accessible on a right-turn-in, right-turn-out basis. Left turns from College Drive onto Wiggins Road are not permitted. Wiggins Avenue south of College Drive is closed to vehicle traffic but will remain open to pedestrians and other active transportation. Pedestrians and cyclists can cross College Drive at Wiggins and use the available active transportation routes through the area.
Pedestrian access continues to be available on the south side of the University Bridge, while the north side remains closed.
Your patience has been appreciated as crews have worked to improve vital infrastructure that will continue to serve Saskatoon for years to come.

Saskatoon Transit resumes service for routes across University Bridge
September 4, 2026 - 9:34pm
- Route 16: Detours via 24th Street and Spadina Crescent
- Temporary stops added at 24th Street and 6th Avenue
- Route 4/40s: Detours via 24th Street and Spadina Crescent
- Temporary stops added at 24th Street and 6th Avenue
- Route 17: Detours via 14th Street and Cumberland Avenue
- Route 517: Temporary shuttle service between Clarence Avenue and Place Riel via Cumberland and 12th Street.
- Monday to Saturday: 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Sunday: 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
With the reopening of University Bridge and College Drive to traffic, Saskatoon Transit will resume service on Routes 16 and 4/40s across the bridge. Due to 25th Street construction, Routes 16 and 4/40s will detour onto Spadina Crescent and 24th Street.
Routes 17 and 517 will continue the current detour while the Clarence Avenue intersection at College Drive remains partially closed. Once this area re-opens, Route 17 will resume regular service and the temporary shuttle Route 517 will no longer operate.
Some stops along College Drive will remain closed, with temporary stops in place. Riders should anticipate delays during construction detours.
Routes resumed across University Bridge:
Routes affected by College Drive detours:
Transit service alerts and real-time bus information are available on third-party apps like Transit and Google Maps Transit on desktop. Trip planning apps will not show temporary detours for routes affected by College Drive detours, so riders are encouraged to plan ahead.
If you have any questions or concerns, contact Saskatoon Transit at transit.services@saskatoon.ca or 306.975.3100.
We thank our customers for their patience and cooperation during construction detours.

University Bridge and College Drive reopen for vehicle traffic
September 4, 2026 - 4:45pm
The University Bridge, southbound Clarence Avenue turning off the Bridge and the south lanes of College Drive between Clarence Avenue and Hospital Drive are now open to traffic. There are currently two lanes of traffic, one in each direction, on College Drive from the University Bridge to Hospital Drive.
Here’s what to expect as the area reopens:
College Drive: East of Hospital Drive, traffic will continue using the two south lanes, with one lane in each direction, through to Cumberland Avenue.
Saskatchewan Crescent: The exit from University Bridge to Saskatchewan Crescent will remain closed.
University Drive: The section between Elliott Street and College Drive will be closed.
Wiggins Road: The north section into the University of Saskatchewan campus will be open on a right-turn-in, right-turn-out basis. Left turns from College Drive onto Wiggins will not be permitted.
Wiggins Avenue south of College Drive: This section will remain closed to vehicles but open to pedestrians and other active transportation. Pedestrians and cyclists can cross College Drive at the Wiggins intersection and are encouraged to use available active transportation routes while following posted signage.
25th Street: Construction will continue, with lane restrictions remaining along 25th Street leading to the bridge, including the continued closure of the 4th Avenue and 25th Street intersection.
Pedestrian walkways: Pedestrian access will continue to be available on the south side of the University Bridge, while the north side remains closed.
Work continues on the project to re-open Clarence Avenue and Saskatchewan Crescent in the coming days.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, follow posted signage and use caution when travelling through the construction zone. Saskatoon Transit routes will continue to be impacted by construction with detours and temporary bus stops. Visit saskatoontransit.ca for details.
Your patience has been appreciated as crews have worked to improve vital infrastructure that will continue to serve Saskatoon for years to come.
