City and contractor crews out in full force after major snowfall
April 17, 2026 - 7:10am
The City of Saskatoon has declared a Snow Event with 15 centimetres of snow accumulation this morning. Snow clearing activities will focus on driving lanes and warmer temperatures this afternoon and tomorrow will shorten the clean-up period as the snow melts.
24 graders and 4 plows are working to clear snow from priority streets like freeways, arterial roads and collector streets. Snow will be stored on medians, boulevards and parking lanes to maintain mobility. 10 sanders are working to improve traction in icy areas, and 6 sidewalk plows are active clearing City-owned pathways and sidewalks.
Saskatoon Transit will continue to monitor conditions and adjust service as needed. Delays or disruptions may occur due to collisions, drifting snow or inaccessible bus stops. Riders are encouraged to check Saskatoon Transit service alerts and use third-party apps such as Transit or Google Transit with route notifications enabled for real-time updates.
Drivers should adjust driving habits by slowing down and increasing following distances between vehicles. Watch for blue and yellow flashing lights on road equipment and give operators the space they need to operate.
The status of snow clearing throughout the city can be monitored through the Priority Street Snow Grading Map. More information, including the City’s level of service, can be found at saskatoon.ca/snow. Stay in the know by checking the latest Snow & Ice Report posted to saskatoon.ca/snowreport.

City crews prepared for significant spring snowfall
April 15, 2026 - 2:30pm
Environment & Climate Change Canada is forecasting a significant snowfall beginning overnight Wednesday into early Thursday morning, with as much as 10-15cm of accumulation in Saskatoon. Snowfall is anticipated to be steady and rapidly accumulating through the day Thursday, with gusty winds creating areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility. Heavier snow is expected to taper off Thursday evening, with light flurries possible into Friday morning.
Given the expected accumulation and blowing snow, residents should anticipate slower travel and changing road conditions. Drivers are encouraged to adjust to conditions, allow extra travel time and maintain a safe following distance.
Plows, graders and sanders will focus on Priority Streets such as Circle Drive and Idylwyld Drive to maintain safe and passable conditions. Crews will continue working through the day as conditions evolve. Watch for their blue and amber flashing lights and give operators the room they need to work safely.
Operational planning will also consider forecasted warmer temperatures following the storm, which are expected to contribute to melting. Crews will balance immediate safety needs with efficient use of resources while maintaining safe driving conditions across the city.
If a snow event is declared, residents will be able to follow snow grading progress through the Priority Street Snow Grading Map. More information, including the City’s winter road maintenance service level, is available at saskatoon.ca/snow.
Saskatoon Transit will monitor and adjust service as needed; however, service can be delayed or interrupted by collisions, blown-in streets and bus stops that are not accessible due to snowfall and drifts. Stay informed: check Saskatoon Transit service alerts for detours or temporary bus stop closures and view real-time bus locations on third-party apps like Transit and Google Transit on desktop. Pin the routes you use often and receive service alert push notifications.

City and kakisiwew-ochapowace nation partner to expand recreation access
April 9, 2026 - 11:30am
- Leisure Centres: Lakewood, Lawson, Shaw, Cosmo, Saskatoon Field House and Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre (once renovations are complete)
- Outdoor Pools: Lathey, Riversdale, Mayfair and George Ward
- Indoor Rinks: ACT, Archibald, Cosmo and Lions Arenas (public skating only)
The City of Saskatoon and kakisiwew-ochapowace nation have entered into a one‑year Letter of Agreement to enhance access to City-operated recreation facilities for kakisiwew-ochapowace nation members living in Saskatoon.
This agreement is about removing barriers and creating more opportunities for people to come together in spaces that support health, wellness and connection,” said Mayor Cynthia Block. “We value our relationship with kakisiwew-ochapowace nation and this partnership reflects our shared commitment to reconciliation, collaboration and ensuring recreational opportunities are accessible to everyone who calls Saskatoon home.”
Through this agreement, kakisiwew-ochapowace nation is allowing members to participate in drop‑in programs at the City Leisure Centres, Outdoor Pools and Indoor Rinks. This initiative strengthens community wellness, supports inclusive access and reflects the City’s commitment to meaningful relationships with First Nations and to advancing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
“This partnership is about making sure our families have access to healthy living - spaces where they can be active, spend time together, and live miyo-pimâtisiwin, a good life. kakisiwew-ochapowace nation is excited about this partnership, and we are grateful to the City of Saskatoon for working with us in a good way to support the well-being of our citizens,” says Tyler George, Headperson for kakisiwew-ochapowace nation.
kakisiwew-ochapowace nation members will have access to drop‑in programming at the following City‑operated facilities:
The partnership provides discounted bulk admission rates for Leisure Centres and Outdoor Pools and standard admissions rates for Indoor Rinks. All admissions have been pre-purchased by kakisiwew-ochapowace nation to ensure their members can access drop-in programming without cost at the point of entry. Initiated through kakisiwew-ochapowace nation’s proactive outreach, this collaboration reinforces a shared commitment to accessible, community‑focused recreation, and the City welcomes conversations with other First Nations interested in exploring similar opportunities.
Ice melting on recreational ponds and South Saskatchewan River
April 9, 2026 - 9:00am
As the weather continues to warm up, the Saskatoon Fire Department would like to advise the public to be mindful of ice conditions.
Ice thickness is no longer suitable for winter recreational use. The ice must reach a minimum thickness of at least eight inches to be considered safe. Fire crews will be updating the posted signage this week to read “No Skating” at each recreational storm pond.
Community members who use the ponds for recreational purposes assume all risk and maintenance responsibilities for the ice including removing personal belongings, as well as user safety.
Additionally, ice on the South Saskatchewan River has also started to melt. The ice that covers this body of water is unpredictable and is therefore never safe for winter recreational use. Residents are asked to never venture out onto the ice that covers sections of the South Saskatchewan River.
Community members are advised to always exercise an elevated level of caution when around any large body of water. Keep a close watch on children and pets when visiting trails, parks, or off-leash areas that may run adjacent to the South Saskatchewan River or a storm water retention pond.
For more information regarding the Recreational Uses of Storm Water Retention Ponds policy, visit saskatoon.ca/ponds.
National Day of Remembrance of the Battle of Vimy Ridge; flags to be lowered April 9
April 9, 2026 - 8:30am
On April 9, Canada will observe the National Day of Remembrance of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. This day commemorates the sacrifices made by members of the Canadian Corps during the Battle of Vimy Ridge in 1917.
In honour of this significant event, flags at all City of Saskatoon facilities will be flown at half-mast in respect of Canada’s veterans, and to remember the nearly 3,600 soldiers who lost their lives and more than 7,000 who were wounded on that fateful day.
The Battle of Vimy Ridge marked the first time that all four divisions of the Canadian Corps fought in a battle together in the First World War against a common enemy. The Battle is considered by many to be a turning point for our country and the beginning of Canada’s march towards nationhood.
REMINDER: City parking pay stations upgrade ongoing
April 9, 2026 - 8:00am
- More Convenient: The new pay stations will accept multiple payment options, including debit and credit card tap, Apple and Google Pay and digital wallets, making parking quicker and easier.
- More Reliable: Improved hardware means fewer breakdowns and faster transactions, reducing wait times. A pilot station was tested downtown over two winters with no technical issues.
- More Accessible: Larger, full-colour screens and a user-friendly design make the stations easier for everyone to use.
- More Efficient: Real-time data will help us monitor usage and availability, so we can make better decisions about parking policy and enforcement.
The City is upgrading all public pay parking stations to improve your parking experience and to better serve our community. While the current stations have helped manage the City’s pay parking for years, it's time for an upgrade to meet the needs of a modern and growing Saskatoon.
Here’s why we’re upgrading:
If you do not have tap functionality, you can still pay using coins, the ParkedIn Parking App, a City Parking Card or by scanning the QR code located on the pay station.
Upgrades began summer 2025 and will be completed in fall 2026. Stations will remain operational during the transition, though brief interruptions may occur. If a station has been temporarily removed and covered, please use the nearest station in the area to pay for parking or the ParkedIn Parking App.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we modernize our city’s parking infrastructure!

City Compost Depot set to open on Monday, April 13
April 7, 2026 - 10:00am
- Elm wood
- sawdust
- treated and untreated lumber
- building materials
- garbage
- any animal waste
- food waste
The City’s Compost Depot is set to open in time for spring clean-up. Residents are invited to drop off excess yard waste at no cost. This helps keep yard waste out of the landfill which the City turns into high-quality, nutrient-rich compost and mulch used in Saskatoon’s parks and community gardens.
Residents are also welcome to take part in the Dig-Your-Own program at the Compost Depot, located at Highway 7 and 11th Street where they can self-load up to 1 cubic yard of compost and mulch at no cost, while supplies last. Accessibility will be dictated by site conditions. Compost pick-up will also be available at the Material Recovery Centre (MRC), located at 42 Valley Road. Note: excess yard waste can not be dropped off at the MRC.
The Compost Depot is open 7 days a week, including statutory holidays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with the final vehicles being admitted at 5:50 p.m.
All loads must be covered when transported within City limits to prevent debris from blowing off vehicles (Waste Bylaw #9844).
The Compost Depot does NOT accept:
Elm wood can be dropped off at the MRC’s Scale & Pay for free. Elm wood must be separated from other materials or regular landfill fees will apply. Learn more about elm wood here and help stop the spread of Dutch elm disease.
Selected food waste may be composted at home and all food waste can be placed in Green Carts.
For more information, please visit saskatoon.ca/compostdepot.

City coordinates major construction along College Drive into Downtown
April 2, 2026 - 10:00am
- Link platform and dedicated transit lane construction on College Drive
- Repairs to a single arch (Arch D) under the University Bridge
- Water main lining on 25th Street
- Emergency access to hospitals will be maintained
- Private vehicles will continue to be able to access the hospitals using westbound College Drive to Hospital Drive
- Saskatoon Transit will use eastbound lanes for approximately three weeks before being detoured
- Pedestrian access on the south side of the bridge will remain open
Beginning the week of April 6, construction will take place along College Drive and into Downtown as the City moves ahead with several major infrastructure projects. The work includes:
“Our focus is to maintain safety, ensure emergency access to hospitals at all times and to coordinate the work for all of these projects in a way that minimizes disruption wherever possible,” says Dan Willems, Director of Technical Services.
Willems says however, people travelling along College Drive – including those heading to hospitals, the University of Saskatchewan and nearby businesses – should expect delays and detours to get this necessary work done.
“When complete, these improvements will support reliable transit, safer active transportation, protect our bridge and provide safe, dependable water.”
Link Station Construction on College Drive
Construction is expected to begin with a full closure of University Bridge and College Drive between Clarence Avenue and Hospital Drive to private vehicles starting the week of April 6 and lasting eight to 10 weeks. During the closure:
Link station construction will take place over two seasons and be completed in phases to reduce impacts as much as possible. Each stage is expected to take two to three months. Timing may change as work progresses.
Due to the full closure of University Bridge and College Drive between Clarence Avenue and Hospital Drive, people are asked to plan accordingly and consider other routes.
University Bridge Arch Repair
Repairs to Arch D under University Bridge, located over the river near Spadina Crescent, are expected to begin April 16 and take about three months. Work includes concrete repairs, refinishing the driving surface, drain repairs and crack sealing.
Two lanes on the opposite side of the bridge will remain open to maintain emergency access during this phase.
25th Street Water Main Lining
Phase I of water main rehabilitation will take place along 25th Street from 1st Avenue North to Spadina Crescent East, starting the week of May 19. Work is expected to take approximately four months and includes repaving following construction.
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during construction.
“We know that the summer construction season can be frustrating,” says Willems. “By combining these projects into the same construction season, we hope to lessen the impact over the long term and ultimately provide better services to our residents for years to come.”

Transportation Committee considers First Avenue Link design report
April 1, 2026 - 4:18pm
The Standing Policy Committee on Transportation is being asked to change the approved dedicated centre-running transit lanes on First Avenue from contraflow to operating with adjacent traffic flow. The approval report for the April 7, 2026, meeting considers a parking analysis, an examination of traffic flow and other technical requirements along with a discussion of public engagement to date. The proposed change aligns with the revisions made to the dedicated transit lanes design approved by Council in June of 2025 for the College Drive Link corridor.
“There are a lot of exciting developments for the Link project as we get ever closer to system launch in 2028,” says Dan Willems, Director of Technical Services. “Completing the functional design of the segment along First Avenue is another important milestone in operationalizing Saskatoon’s bus rapid transit system to move residents across the city more effectively, efficiently and economically.”
The adjacent traffic flow design matches driver, cyclist and pedestrian expectations, as well as aligns with the dedicated transit lanes previously approved by City Council for the College Drive Link corridor. A consistent approach to how the dedicated transit lanes will operate will also provide a level of safety and comfort for the bus operators and riders. While travel time for vehicles through the corridor during peak hours is expected to increase slightly, the First Avenue corridor and intersections will provide adequate levels of service for pedestrians and vehicles, and an improved level of service for transit users. The parking study further indicates adequate parking supply will remain. The design has undergone a Road Safety Audit (RSA) and additional safety audits will be completed throughout the design phase and after the corridor is constructed and in operation.
“We are less than two years away from Link rolling out,” says Willems. “While it seems like there is still a lot of heavy lifting to do, the team has been making exceptional progress over the last few years. Everyone is working hard to make the best system possible for Saskatoon while remaining mindful of budgetary restraints and working with stakeholders and the public whenever appropriate.”
An information report will be considered at the same meeting providing an update on the Link project to date. Both reports and the meeting agenda can be found on our website. For more information on the Link rapid transit project, please visit saskatoon.ca/link.

City reminds drivers to slow down during expressway maintenance
April 1, 2026 - 9:00am
Starting April 1, crews will be completing ongoing cycles of mowing and litter cleanup along City expressways. Please slow down when driving by work zones for the safety of crews working adjacent to the expressway. Maintain a safe following distance while driving and obey all posted signage.
Drivers are also reminded to cover and secure their cargo when driving on the expressway. Unsecured cargo is the main source of expressway litter and drivers can be subject to ticketing, as per Waste Bylaw 8310.
Securing cargo is not only important for protecting your vehicle and the items that you are carrying, but it is also a critical step in helping to prevent dangerous accidents. You are encouraged to use ratchet straps, bungee cords and/or tarps depending on what you are carrying. This will help to secure your cargo, minimize litter, and help keep everyone safe on the road.
The Circle Drive/Expressway Mowing Program consists of maintenance and upkeep of higher speed roadways around Saskatoon. This program focuses primarily on maintenance items such as: litter removal, mowing, and trimming running April 1 until October 31. The roadways included within this program are main artery highways going to and from Saskatoon, Expressways (or freeway) roads and Circle Drive (highway).
The City thanks drivers for their cooperation.

Help stop the spread of Dutch elm disease; elm pruning ban begins April 1
March 31, 2026 - 10:30am
- Yellowing leaves
- Wilting leaves
- Leaves that curl and turn brown
- Do not prune elm trees during the provincial pruning ban (April 1 to August 31)
- Do not bring elm wood into Saskatoon, store it or burn it as firewood
- Dispose of all elm wood only at the City Landfill
- Sanitize tools after working on elm trees
- Report dead or dying elm trees to the City
Cases of Dutch elm disease (DED) reached a record high in Saskatoon last season, putting the city’s beautiful elm canopy at risk. While the disease is serious, there are a few simple steps residents can take to slow the spread and help save our elms, starting with the provincial elm pruning ban.
One in every four trees in Saskatoon is an elm and threatened by DED. The City reminds residents that the provincial ban on pruning elm trees is in effect from April 1 to August 31, 2026.
Elm wood restrictions
It is illegal to store, transport or use elm wood for any purpose. The only permitted movement of elm wood is to the City Landfill, where it can be disposed of at no cost.
Watch for symptoms
Elm trees may begin showing signs of DED in June. Look for:
If you suspect an unhealthy elm tree, or if you’re unsure whether your firewood is elm, take a photo and submit it at saskatoon.ca/dutchelmdisease or call Customer Care 306-975-2476.
What is DED?
DED is a serious fungal disease that blocks an elm tree’s ability to move water and nutrients. Once infected, most trees will die. DED has killed millions of elm trees across North America.
How DED spreads
DED spreads mainly through elm bark beetles, which can fly more than two kilometres in search of elm trees. The fungal spores stick to the beetle’s bodies and infect trees as they feed. The fungus can also be spread through root grafts and unsanitized pruning tools.
How you can help stop the spread
Need to prune during the ban?
Pruning elm trees during the provincial ban requires a permit. Call Customer Care at 306-975-2476 for more information.
By following the provincial regulations and maintaining elm trees on private property, residents can help slow the spread of DED in Saskatoon.
For more information on DED, visit saskatoon.ca/dutchelmdisease.

City warns public about parking ticket text scam
March 27, 2026 - 4:20pm
- These types of demanding pay calls, Robocalls, texts or emails are never sent from the City of Saskatoon.
- The City never requests or collects credit card or bank account information from customers via phone, text or email.
- Never give out your personal or banking information, or credit card number over the phone, by text or email. It is a best practice to block suspicious phone numbers and delete after reporting.
- Do not to click on suspicious web links.
It appears the scammers are at it again.
The City wants to warn residents about an identified scam involving text messages demanding payment for unpaid parking tickets. The City does not use any texting services. You can check to see if you have an unpaid ticket on our website and entering your drivers’ license number.
Helpful reminders for residents:
Scammers typically use the information they gather this way to get money or commit identity theft. Previous public service announcements from the City have warned residents about scams involving fake text messages and emails, both demanding payment from customers they said ‘owed money’.
Residents should contact their bank if they have become a victim of fraud, and also report these types of phone or online scams to Saskatoon Police Service at saskatoonpolice.ca/onlinereporting/fraud or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center, 1-888-495-8501.
Concerned residents may also call the City of Saskatoon to speak with a Customer Service Representative at 306-975-2400.
