Orange Shirt Day is a day to mark the healing journey of residential school survivors and their families and to renew our commitment to the ongoing process of reconciliation. It’s a day for us to reaffirm that Every Child Matters. The date was chosen because it’s the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools.

The City of Saskatoon is promoting the upcoming city-wide Curbside Swap on Saturday, September 19 (8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.) as an opportunity for residents to reduce the amount of garbage going to the landfill by “swapping” their reusable items with other residents in the community.

At a Curbside Swap, residents place gently used, unwanted items on their property (next to the sidewalk or curb) and mark them as ‘free’ for anyone to pick up. They may also go out in search of items that their neighbours are giving away for free.
