What Are The Next Steps?
The strategy and implementation plan, Alternative Currents: A Renewable and Low-emissions Implementation Plan, was approved by City Council in November 2022. Out of the short-term initiatives identified in the Plan, City Administration is proceeding with the development of the following initiatives in 2023:
- Educational Programming for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Generation
- Industry, Commercial and Institutional Energy Efficiency Program
- Solar Administration Review and Update
- Solar PV on Municipal Rooftops
What We Heard
From January 2021 to July 2022 a total of 884 community members, subject matter experts and industry professionals were engaged in the development of the Plan. Based on what we heard, in addition to best practices in other cities and internal considerations, City Administration has developed the Alternative Currents: An Implementation Plan for Saskatoon's Renewable and Low-Emission Energy Transition.
Throughout the engagement process we asked the community for their feedback on:
- How can the City lead by example to increase renewable energy use in Saskatoon?
- What are barriers and challenges preventing renewable energy self-generation within Saskatoon?
- What can the City do to improve accessibility and uptake of renewable energy across the community?
To learn more about what we heard please see the Final Engagement Report.
