The City of Saskatoon is developing a long-term, city-wide Renewable Energy Strategy (Strategy) that will inventory, analyze, and prioritize renewable energy options in Saskatoon. The Strategy will provide a better understanding of the feasibility, costs, and potential for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for residential and commercial renewable energy options. The recommended options will be presented to City Council in Summer 2021 and will be decided through best practice research, feasibility assessment, and engagement.
What Are We Asking?
We would like to hear your thoughts on the Renewable Energy Strategy (Strategy), including:
- What are the opportunities for renewable energy in Saskatoon?
- What are barriers and challenges preventing renewable energy use within Saskatoon?
- What can the City do to improve accessibility and uptake of renewable energy options across the community?
March – June 2021, we will be engaging the public on the various components of the Strategy. Feedback collected will inform the recommended program options and identify opportunities to improve support for renewable energy use in Saskatoon. Once we have determined public preference for the proposed programs, we will share our findings this Summer 2021.
How Can You Get Involved?

Options Identification - Stakeholder Survey
An online survey is being held from April 15 to April 29 for industry stakeholders and subject matter experts to provide their feedback on the opportunities and barriers in renewable energy use in Saskatoon, as well as final program considerations for the Home Energy Loan Program. We estimate the survey will take just over 15 minutes to complete and can be found here. Opportunities for residents to provide their feedback will be available in future phases.
