Warman Road traffic signal testing begins Tuesday, May 19

May 14, 2026 - 1:46pm

TC26-12028
May 14, 2026 - 1:46 pm

The City of Saskatoon will begin testing new pedestrian crossing signals on Warman Road at Hazen Street and at 5th Avenue North next week to prepare for activation. The traffic signals will operate in temporary flash mode starting at 10 a.m. on May 19 through May 21, weather and testing dependent.

During this testing period, the traffic signals crossing Warman Road at Hazen Street will flash red in all directions for drivers to come to a complete stop before proceeding when safe. The traffic signals crossing Warman Road at 5th Avenue North will flash amber, requiring drivers to proceed through the intersection with caution.

The signals will be activated ahead of May 31 when bus service begins at the new adjacent bus stop platforms on Routes 30 and 35, providing new access for residents in the area.

Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists are reminded to pay close attention to signage and use extra caution.

To plan a trip on Route 30 and 35, use the Transit App or Google Maps Transit, or check out route schedules at saskatoontransit.ca/routes. These new bus stops will be part of the future Link rapid transit blue line. Learn more at saskatoon.ca/link.

City Reports Strong Progress in Final Year of 2022-2025 Strategic Plan

May 14, 2026 - 1:25pm

ST-12030
May 14, 2026 - 1:25 pm

The City of Saskatoon’s 2025 Strategic Plan Progress Report marks the final year of the City’s 2022–2025 Strategic Plan and reflects a year of remarkable outcomes and important transitions as Saskatoon continues to grow.

“The 2025 results reflect both measurable progress and important investments behind the scenes,” says Richard Phillips, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer. “This report demonstrates the City’s deliberate choices to support affordability, environmental responsibility and reliable services. While there is more work ahead, we are entering our new, 2026-2029 Strategic Plan cycle with strong momentum, building on the value and results delivered over the past four years for everyone who lives, works, learns and plays in Saskatoon.”

In 2025, the City of Saskatoon continued to work on 25 key strategic initiatives, with 7 fully completed. Ongoing work planned for 17 initiatives was completed as scheduled, with work continuing as planned in 2026. One initiative was flagged for caution due to its scale and complexity, with timelines adjusted to ensure long‑term success. This represents a 96 per cent delivery rate on our key strategic initiatives.

While celebrating these achievements, the City remains focused on areas that require continued attention. Progress is being made in strengthening emergency response times, transit performance, and residents’ perceptions of inclusion. These areas of focus, alongside ongoing improvements in workforce diversity, will continue to receive attention. Administration has already identified ways in which these areas can see progress in over the coming years.

“We recognize that there are areas for improvement but we have also taken actions in several areas that are important to residents,” says Phillips. More attainable housing was delivered than in previous years, supporting affordability. Waste diversion reached record levels and greenhouse gas emissions continued to decline as environmental initiatives moved into action.

The City also invested in transit, asset management, digital services, and data systems, strengthening long‑term service delivery and planning as the city continues to grow. Saskatoon also remained one of the most affordable cities, helping residents and local businesses.

Overall, 2025 represents a year of progress and transition, balancing today’s service needs while building a more inclusive, resilient and sustainable Saskatoon.

Long awaited Pedestrian Railway crossing connects River Heights and North Industrial neighbourhoods

May 14, 2026 - 11:00am

TC26-12022
May 14, 2026 - 11:00 am

The City of Saskatoon has bridged another divide, building a pedestrian crossing at the CN Railway tracks between Assiniboine Drive and 43rd Street East. The new pathway will officially open on May 18 2026 following the announcement by CN Rail that they will be ceasing the use of airhorns in that area that day.

The completion of the railway crossing, just off Warman Road, provides a safe and legal connection across the tracks. It is now easier for people walking, riding their bikes, or using other types of active transportation to move between neighbourhoods east of the tracks and the commercial areas on the west side.

“Until now, there weren’t any safe or legal routes for pedestrians to cross the railway tracks for a three and a half kilometre stretch between 33rd Street and 51st Street,” says Jay Magus, Director of Transportation. “The new crossing provides another transportation option.”

The pedestrian rail crossing is the first of its kind in Saskatoon. It functions like a typical roadway rail crossing with light signals and gate arms to block the path when a train is approaching, keeping pathway users safe.

For people living and working in nearby communities, it means another option for getting around.

"This crossing will provide my residents with access to shops, restaurants and businesses in the north commercial district, which is something they have been asking for,” says Randy Donauer, Ward 5 Councillor. “I'm very pleased to see this pedestrian rail crossing open and I'd like to thank our Administration and CN for making it happen."

The City aims to establish a safe and convenient network of active transportation infrastructure throughout Saskatoon. Building a connection point between Assiniboine Drive and 43rd Street supports those goals by allowing different modes of transportation better access to future active transportation corridors in the north industrial area.

Construction season underway across Saskatoon

May 14, 2026 - 10:00am

TC26- 12025
May 14, 2026 - 10:00 am

Some of Saskatoon’s most travelled roads are scheduled for major upgrades this summer. These projects are designed to maintain essential infrastructure and support long-term community growth.

Residents can expect traffic restrictions, detours and localized impacts throughout the spring, summer and early fall.

“Across Saskatoon, our crews are doing the often overlooked but important work that keeps clean, reliable water flowing and helps extend the life of our infrastructure,” says Matt Jurkiewicz, Director of Construction and Design. “From renewing aging water mains to preserving busy roadways or preparing land for future development, this work is essential to keeping Saskatoon moving now and into the future.”

2026 construction project highlights

(See attached map for numbered locations.)

  1. Neighbourhood water main projects
Water main replacement work is underway in Riversdale, Blairmore, North Park, Richmond Hill, Caswell Hill, Nutana, Buena Vista and Haultain. These projects renew aging infrastructure and help maintain a dependable water supply.
  1. Acadia Reservoir – primary water main
Primary water main work at the Acadia Reservoir is nearing completion and is a key step in preparing the water system to meet long-term community needs.
  1. Idylwyld Drive – overnight roadway preservation
Night work is scheduled between 20th Street and 25th Street, and between 39th Street and 51st Street, to extend pavement life and minimize daytime traffic impacts.
  1. 22nd Street – overnight roadway preservation
Night work will take place between Idylwyld Drive to Avenue P.
  1. Circle Drive – overnight roadway preservation
Night work will happen between College Drive and Attridge Drive, and from the Gordie Howe Bridge to Idylwyld Drive.
  1. Highway 7 connector improvements
Additional roadway work is occurring from 22nd Street to the CPKC rail line.
  1. University lands servicing
Servicing work is progressing to support a future strategic infill development and make efficient use of existing infrastructure.
  1. Biosolids Pipeline Corridor Project
Installation of new water and sewer infrastructure is underway in the Marquis Industrial area and Meewasin Valley Trail near the Silverwood Heights neighbourhood. Work along Wanuskewin Road between Arthur Rose Avenue and Highway 11 includes open‑cut excavation and horizontal directional drilling, with phased detours and road closures in effect.
  1. College Drive and Downtown infrastructure
Projects include: Link system construction on College Drive between Clarence Avenue and Preston Avenue, water main lining on 25th Street between 1st Avenue and Spadina Crescent, and rehabilitation work on the University Bridge.
  1. Cahill Park Dry Storm Pond
A new dry storm pond is being developed in Cahill Park that will help reduce flooding in nearby areas by collecting and slowly draining storm water during and following heavy rainfalls.

The City recognizes construction can be inconvenient and disruptive to daily routines and travel. Residents and drivers are asked for patience and understanding throughout the construction season. Help keep everyone safe – including the crews working on site – by following posted signage, observing detour information and respecting work zones so everyone can return home safely at the end of their shift or commute.

Coexisting with Saskatoon’s urban wildlife

May 12, 2026 - 9:00am

CY26-12009
May 12, 2026 - 9:00 am

As warmer weather approaches, it’s important to remember that we share our urban spaces with many species of wildlife such as coyotes, foxes, geese, jackrabbits and raccoons.

Encountering urban wildlife in Saskatoon is normal and these animals play a vital role in our ecosystem. Understanding how to coexist with them can ensure safety for both the wildlife and our community.

Here are some important tips for coexisting with urban wildlife:

  • Do not feed wildlife: You are not helping them. Feeding wild animals can make them lose their natural fear of humans, leading to increased encounters and potential conflicts. City Bylaw prohibits the feeding of wildlife on all public and private property in Saskatoon and may result in fines.
  • Respect wildlife: They are not pets. Keep wildlife wild by not approaching or attempting to touch them.
  • Use hazing techniques: If you encounter a wild animal, make loud noises, wave your arms and throw small objects towards (but not at) it to scare it away. Do not run or turn your back.
  • Secure food sources: Keep garbage, compost, birdseed and pet food out of reach and tightly sealed.
  • Keep pets safe: Always supervise pets when they are outside, especially at night. While out on a walk, have pets under your control and on a leash in areas known to have wildlife.
  • Report unusual behaviour: If the animal is acting unusual (e.g., approaching people, staggering or acting confused), call Customer Care at 306-975-2476. If the animal is acting aggressive, contact the Saskatoon Police Service non-emergency line at 306-975-8300. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.

By following these guidelines, we can co-exist safely and prevent unwanted encounters with the wildlife that share our urban spaces.

For more information on urban wildlife, visit saskatoon.ca/wildlife.

CF26-11995
May 6, 2026 - 10:03 am

The City of Saskatoon will begin mailing out more than 102,000 property tax notices today, Wednesday, May 6. Property owners should expect their 2026 Property Tax notice to arrive in the coming weeks. Each notice will include a 2026 Property Tax Notice Guide with key information. Property owners who have not received their tax notice by May 31, 2026, should call 306-975-2400.

New online option to property tax notices and more coming fall 2026

The City of Saskatoon is preparing to launch MyProperty this fall. MyProperty is a new online service option that will give residents a convenient way to view, download and manage property tax and assessment notices, utility billing and other services in one secure location.

Property owners will find a unique access code printed on page one of their 2026 Property Tax notice. Those who prefer online access should keep this code to create a MyProperty account when the service launches. Paper notices will continue for residents who prefer them. Learn more at saskatoon.ca/mypropertyinfo.

Your payment methods

  • Several payment options are available, including the monthly Tax Instalment Payment Plan Service (TIPPS). Property owners may apply to join TIPPS at any time.
  • For those already enrolled in TIPPS, the amount showing on the 2026 Property Tax notice is for information purposes only.
  • No late payment penalties apply if the full 2026 Property Tax amount due is paid by the deadline of Monday, June 30, 2026.
  • Not receiving a property tax notice does not exempt a property owner from late payment penalties.

Helpful Resource

Starting Friday, May 8, property owners can enter their address in the Property Assessment & Tax Tool at saskatoon.ca/taxtool to view a detailed breakdown of the municipal portion of their 2026 Property Tax, historical property tax information, current and previous property assessed value and related details.

Every worker is someone’s someone: slow down and give crews space

May 6, 2026 - 9:00am

TC26-11985
May 6, 2026 - 9:00 am

With construction season ramping up, the City of Saskatoon is urging people to adjust how they move through streets, sidewalks and neighbourhoods where work is underway. These areas aren’t inconveniences to pass through quickly, they’re active job sites where people are doing skilled, often high-risk work. Every worker is someone’s someone.

Across Saskatoon, crews are repairing roads, maintaining water infrastructure, upgrading power systems and completing neighbourhood improvements. This work takes place in changing conditions, alongside live traffic and tight spaces, making awareness from the public a critical part of keeping everyone safe.

“Behind every work zone are people doing their jobs to help improve our community. They’re someone’s parents, partners, children and friends, and many are working just feet away from moving vehicles and heavy equipment for hours at a time,” says Terry Schmidt, General Manager of Transportation & Construction. “When drivers rush, become distracted or are inattentive, the consequences can be serious and put the safety of others at risk. Slowing down and following the guidance in place is one of the simplest ways we can help ensure everyone gets home safely at the end of the day.”

The City is reminding all road users to take a more deliberate approach when encountering work zones:

  • Treat every work zone as a restricted area. Follow posted signs and directions, and do not move or ignore barriers, cones or tape. They are there for your safety, and the safety of workers.
  • Expect work anywhere. Crews may be on roadways, sidewalks, alleys or utility corridors, and work can happen at any time of day.
  • Reduce speed and eliminate distractions. Staying focused protects both workers and the people travelling through the area.

Work zones are a necessary part of maintaining and improving city infrastructure, but they rely on cooperation from the public to function safely. Taking a few extra seconds to slow down or follow a detour helps prevent injuries and keeps projects moving forward.

More information about work zone safety is available at saskatoon.ca/respectworkzones.

Update: Saskatoon continues to keep water safe

May 5, 2026 - 3:45pm

12002
May 5, 2026 - 3:45 pm

Saskatoon Water would like to provide an update related to a fuel spill April 30 in the South Saskatchewan River far upstream at Medicine Hat, Alberta – not near Leader, Saskatchewan – as originally shared; the City regrets this error.

Saskatoon’s water supply is safe and is expected to remain safe. The following is a statement from the Office of the Minister of Environment and Protected Areas of Alberta.

Alberta’s government received notification that a locomotive was leaking diesel as it left the train yard in Medicine Hat, prompting a response from a local environment officer. Most of the spilled diesel spilled on the ground and a small amount went into the river.
The health and safety of Albertans, communities and the environment are always our first priority in these situations. Environmental contractors for both land and water remediation were brought in, and a vac truck was used to clean-up the area shortly after the incident. A thorough inspection of the South Saskatchewan River was completed by boat and drone imagery near the release site and more than 30 kilometres downstream. The contractors reported no sheen or minimal sheen where the diesel entered the river, and no diesel was reported further downstream. Water samples were taken both upstream and downstream and have been submitted for testing.
CPKC* is required to pay for all associated clean-up costs.

City of Saskatoon continues to keep drinking water safe

May 4, 2026 - 1:30pm

UE26-11993
May 4, 2026 - 1:30 pm

Saskatoon Water is aware of a fuel spill in the South Saskatchewan River far upstream near Leader, Saskatchewan. Saskatoon’s water supply is safe and is expected to remain safe.

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency and Water Security Agency have been managing the spill response and advised the City of Saskatoon when the spill occurred.

Diesel is a volatile substance and lighter than water and it is expected to dissipate long before any of the spilled fuel could reach Saskatoon. Even if any spilled fuel were to reach Saskatoon after lake Diefenbaker, the concentration would be far below any level of concern for public consumption. If that were to happen, an expected concentration would be one ten-millionth of a milligram per litre after Lake Diefenbaker – or one part per 10 million litres.

Further ensuring water safety, the City of Saskatoon Raw Water Intake does not gather water from the surface; it uses a mid-stream intake which helps avoid intake of floating substances such as diesel fuel.

Weekly Household Hazardous Waste drop-off days return Wednesday May 6

May 4, 2026 - 10:00am

UE26-11990
May 4, 2026 - 10:00 am

Weekly Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) drop-off days return this week. Beginning Wednesday, May 6, 2026 residents can drop off HHW every Wednesday at the Material Recovery Centre (MRC).

The weekly collection program makes it easier for residents to dispose of items that should not be thrown in regular garbage or recycling bins due to their potential harm to the environment and public health.

Accepted items include aerosols, automotive fluids, cleaners, cylinders, light bulbs, yard chemicals and more. Complete lists of acceptable and unacceptable items are available at saskatoon.ca/hazardouswaste.

HHW will be accepted every Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the MRC, located at 42 Valley Road.

The City encourages residents to take advantage of this free service to ensure these materials are handled in an environmentally responsible manner.

Reminders:

  • The program is open to residents with household products only – no commercial loads will be accepted.
  • Containers used for transporting HHW may not be returned to the participants.
  • Please ensure all containers are safely sealed and clearly labelled.
  • To avoid potentially long line-ups and wait times, ask the Waste Wizard at saskatoon.ca/wastewizard to find other means of recycling and safe disposal.

Thank you for helping us put waste in the right place.

Saskatoon shifts into gear for Spring BYXE Week

May 1, 2026 - 10:00am

TC26-11977
May 1, 2026 - 10:00 am

Saskatoon is set to see more bikes on the road as Spring BYXE Week returns May 9–17, inviting residents to rethink how they get around the city.

Organized by the City of Saskatoon in collaboration with Saskatoon Cycles, the week highlights cycling as a practical option for everyday travel, not just recreation. Activities throughout the week are designed to make riding a more viable option, whether it’s a short trip to work, school or nearby amenities.

A focal point of the week is Bike to Work Day on Thursday, May 14, when commuter stations will be set up across the city during peak hours. Riders can stop for light refreshments and connect with others choosing to travel by bike.

Beyond the events, the campaign reinforces a broader message: choosing to bike can reduce pressure on road networks, lower transportation costs and contribute to a quieter, cleaner urban environment. It also integrates physical activity into daily routines, which can improve both energy levels and overall well-being.

Residents who are new to cycling, or returning after a break, are encouraged to start with short, manageable trips. Planning ahead using Saskatoon’s cycling resources can help identify comfortable routes and build confidence over time. For longer distances, combining transit with cycling remains an option, as city buses are equipped with bike racks.

Participants are encouraged to document their rides and share them using #BYXE, contributing to a visible, community-wide snapshot of how people move through Saskatoon during the week.

Full event listings and participation details are available at saskatooncycles.org/spring-byxe.

Water restrictions extended for some east-side residents

April 30, 2026 - 4:00pm

TC26-11982
April 30, 2026 - 4:00 pm

Water restrictions for some east-side residents are being extended until June 1, 2026. This is due to weather-related construction delays for the Acadia Drive primary water main project, which began on March 23, 2026. Water service will remain safe to consume and reliable throughout the work.

Based on past project modelling and fall 2025 testing, pressure may drop by up to 20 psi (about 40%) in Brevoort Park, College Park, Wildwood, Lakeview, Rosewood, Lakewood Suburban Centre, Lakewood, Briarwood, Greystone Heights, Eastview, and College Park East.

Water pressure is not expected to drop below 40 pounds per square inch, which is still suitable for everyday household use like showering, running appliances and washing dishes. To help keep neighbourhood water pressure as steady as possible during construction, residents in impacted areas are asked to limit outdoor water use by avoiding activities such as lawn watering or using sprinkler systems.

Frequently asked questions:

  • Will I still have water? Yes. Saskatoon Water customers will continue to have safe, high-quality drinking water.
  • Do I need to boil my water? No. Drinking water quality will not be affected. If a boil water advisory is ever required, the City will notify residents.
  • What if I lose water? Outages are not expected. If you experience one, call the Customer Care Centre at 306-975-2476.

This project is needed to deliver long-term water quality and reliability. The City thanks residents for their patience and cooperation during this important work. For more information on the project, please visit saskatoon.ca/AcadiaPWM.

Temporary yellow “No Parking” signs will be installed at least 36 hours before sweeping. Residents are required to move vehicles by 7 a.m. on the posted day to allow crews full access to the curb. Vehicles left in areas with parking restrictions will be ticketed and relocated.

Street sweeping is weather-dependent. Crews are unable to operate effectively in wet conditions, as rain causes debris to stick to the road surface and limits the ability of sweepers to collect material. This can result in incomplete cleaning and may require return visits. If rain impacts operations, schedule adjustments will be communicated.
