Saskatoon Fire News Releases

June is Parks and Recreation Month in Saskatchewan – it’s a time to recognize how parks and recreation opportunities make Saskatoon a great place to live, work, learn and play.

“Parks, open spaces and recreational opportunities are key to our quality of life in Saskatoon,” says Andrew Roberts, Director of Recreation and Community Development. “As a community we’ve seen the benefits most recently from being able to get out and spread out in over 200 parks. It’s timely to celebrate Parks and Recreation Month as more recreation spaces re-open throughout Saskatoon.”

On Monday, June 15, Graham Commuter Partners (GCP) will begin installing the final layer of asphalt on Central Avenue from McOrmond Drive to Attridge Drive and on McOrmond Drive from Wanuskewin Road to Kenaschuk Crescent.

Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times and the work will be completed in phases to minimize any inconvenience. It is scheduled to last for approximately 8 weeks, barring weather delays or other unforeseen circumstances.

The City is doing its part to flatten the curve of COVID-19 cases in Saskatoon. We have made many staffing and service changes so our employees can safely deliver services to residents and to make sure people remain physically apart from one another. This way we can all work together by staying apart – it will protect the health of essential frontline healthcare staff, core service workers and first-responders. These actions in turn protect all of us.

The weather forecasts for Saskatoon over the next few days include rain, which can delay street sweeping if it’s too heavy. City crews will be out as scheduled this weekend, sweeping on streets where the yellow No Parking signs are posted, even through light rain.

If the rain is too heavy where water starts to run in the gutter or there is lightning, sweeping will be suspended. If sweeping cannot begin on a scheduled day, a service alert will be issued in the morning to advise residents of the cancellation.
