For the past 30 years, SGI and Saskatoon Transit have partnered to offer free late night transit service on New Year’s Eve, ensuring everyone has a safe ride home. This year the service is back! SGI is once again sponsoring free rides in the evening and Saskatoon Transit has extended the free service to all day.

Residents are reminded the City’s FlexParking pay stations will require payment on Boxing Day, Wednesday, December 26, 2018.

Payment will not be required on Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25, 2018, and New Year’s Day, Tuesday, January 1, 2019.

Public parking in the Downtown, Broadway, Riversdale, River Landing, and Sutherland areas, as well as streets adjacent to St. Paul’s and Saskatoon City Hospitals are metered from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Saturday.  Payment is not required outside these hours, on Sundays, or on statutory holidays as outlined below:

Environment Canada forecasts a good chance of light snow and wind gusts to 50 km/h this afternoon with the current above-freezing temperatures falling to around -3 degrees. There is a possibility of flurries continuing overnight, and temperatures are expected to cool off near -14 degrees by Saturday night.

Westbound lanes on 8th Street will be closed at Clarence Avenue for two blocks on Friday, December 21 for an emergency watermain repair. Eastbound lanes will also have some restrictions beginning at Lansdowne Avenue. Please expect delays and respect work zone signage.

Westbound traffic will be detoured at Clarence Avenue. Parking, pedestrian and cycling restrictions will also be in effect around the construction zone.

The road is expected to reopen Friday evening, weather permitting and barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Environment Canada forecasts a chance of freezing rain overnight, with temperatures slightly below zero. City crews are pre-salting high traffic roads to prevent ice, with staff and equipment available to salt and sand priority roads and high-traffic intersections throughout the evening and into Friday morning.

With the holiday season upon us, the City of Saskatoon would like to make residents aware of some important information regarding waste and recycling collection services.

In supporting the City of Saskatoon’s strategic goal of Environmental Leadership, a grant totaling $30,000 is now available to local, non-profit organizations implementing and supporting sustainable initiatives. The deadline to apply for this grant is February 15, 2019.

$10,000 of this total will be allocated specifically to projects that relate to water conservation, and NEW for 2019, $10,000 will be allocated for waste diversion.

To be eligible for this grant, organizational activities must relate to one of the following categories:
