As some prepare for a long weekend or more time away from home, please take a few minutes to stormproof before you go. Heavy summer downpours are a leading cause of basement floods.  

Since April 2018 and as part of a pilot project, the University of Waterloo has been assessing flood risk for Saskatoon homes.  Homeowners may think they've done all they can; however, preliminary analysis reveals opportunities to reduce the risk of flooding in a major storm exists for each of the assessed homes in Saskatoon.

The Fall Leisure Guide will be delivered to Saskatoon households on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, and can be picked up at any indoor Leisure Centre, Saskatoon Public Library location, or City Hall.  The Leisure Guide will also be available on the City’s website at saskatoon.ca/leisureguide beginning Friday, August 3, 2018.

The Leisure Guide is Saskatoon’s go-to source for fitness programs, recreational activities, and arts and culture opportunities for all ages and abilities.

Visits to the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo (Zoo) are about to get even more fun with the unveiling of the new Orano Fun Zone playground!  A state-of-the-art accessible playground, the Orano Fun Zone playground is an attraction of its own, certain to delight children of all ages.

The new playground features a variety of accessible components, including a nature-inspired themed PlayBoosterR Treehouse, OodlerR Swing, Talk Tubes, and much more!

The City’s 47 summer playground programs will be starting on Tuesday, July 3, 2018.  A list of locations are available on the Where to Play interactive map at saskatoon.ca/play.

Designed for 2 to 12 year olds, these free drop-in programs include water play, sports, crafts, games, music and much more.  Playground programs operate rain or shine, Mondays to Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Fridays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. through to Friday, August 24, 2018.

Direct service from the Special Events Stop (outside the 2nd Avenue Lofts at 23rd Street and 2nd Avenue) to the Alabama concert at SaskTel Centre is available at the following times:

  • 6:15 p.m.
  • 6:30 p.m.
  • 6:55 p.m.
  • 7:10 p.m.
  • 7:30 p.m.

Post event drop-off is at the downtown terminal.

Regular fares apply ($3.00 per trip). Transfers and passes are also accepted.

August 2, 2018 - 6:00am

City crews will be microsurfacing the Idylwyld Drive SB exit ramp to Ruth Street tonight. The work will be undertaken at night to limit the impact on road users.

This section of Idylwyld Drive is one of approximately 70 locations where microsurfacing is scheduled to take place in the city in 2018. Other high traffic routes receiving this treatment include segments of the Sid Buckwold Bridge and 51st Street. 

Microsurfacing is a road surfacing treatment that preserves the roadway. It’s applied to weathered or worn surfaces that are structurally sound.

After more than 900 votes, the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo (Zoo) is pleased to announce that the infant Goeldi monkey has been named Calli.

“We wanted to extend a huge thank you to everyone that participated in selecting the name Calli for the newest member of the Goeldi troop,” said Tim Sinclair-Smith, Zoo Manager.

Calli was selected by popular vote after the Zoo narrowed down the selection to four potential names, including Calli, Maku, Tupi, and Sofia.

The following are the hours of Civic Services and Facilities for Monday, August 6, 2018.

City Hall will be closed.

Pay Parking Stations will not require payment on Monday, August 6. Motorists are still required to park their vehicles within area time limits posted.

The Municipal Impound Lot will not be releasing vehicles to the public.

Saskatoon Public Library (all locations) will be closed.
