River rescue call near Spadina Cres. & Ravine Dr.

July 31, 2026 - 3:37pm

FR-12259
July 31, 2026 - 3:37 pm

The Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) responded at 11:50 a.m. to a report of a person and dog in the river.

SFD launched two boats from the 33rd Street boat launch. They went to the individual’s last reported known location on the east side of the riverbank adjacent Spadina Crescent and Ravine Drive.

The fire crews conducted both a riverbank and water search and also began dive operations from the point the person was last seen.

Drone supports from the Saskatoon Police Service and Corman Park Police service also assisted to expand the search area from the air.

A fire department diver conducted rescue operations for approximately 60 minutes but was unable to locate the individual.

Another dive team will continue the search switching to sonar scan operations.

Initial reports indicated a dog was also in the water and self-rescued. However, further conversations with the fire rescue crews and police reveal that so far, no dog has been located.

More information will be released if it becomes available.

City releases Climate Action Strategy

July 29, 2026 - 4:30pm

UE26-12214
July 29, 2026 - 4:30 pm

A long-term framework: 25-year roadmap supports safer, healthier, more prosperous Saskatoon

The City of Saskatoon has revealed its Climate Action Strategy (Strategy), a 25-year proposal for climate readiness that provides a framework for responding to the growing impacts of climate change while supporting the vision for a safer, healthier and more prosperous community.

The updated Strategy is made up of two playbooks for climate readiness; one outlines measures that reduce carbon pollution while the other suggests ways to prepare the community for impacts of a changing climate. The Strategy includes corporate leadership and community action, all guided by a commitment to equity, reconciliation, prosperity, and miyo-pimâtisiwin (the good life).

“Climate change is already affecting communities across Canada, and Saskatoon is not immune to those impacts,” says Director of Sustainability Jeanna South. “This Strategy helps ensure we are prepared for the future by taking a thoughtful, responsible approach that protects our community, supports residents and helps maintain the services people rely on every day.”

The Strategy outlines potential actions and areas of focus that can be explored over time as community needs, technologies and funding opportunities evolve. It will help guide decision-making as the City prepares for challenges such as extreme heat, flooding, wildfire smoke and severe storms that can affect public safety, infrastructure and essential services.

Approval of the Strategy does not include approval or funding for individual initiatives, which will be considered separately through future decision-making, budget and public engagement processes.

“The Climate Action Strategy helps people in Saskatoon to stay healthy, supported and strong in a changing climate,” said South. "A safer Saskatoon means being prepared before the next heat wave, smoke event or major storm arrives, not after. Climate action is not about spending for the sake of spending; it's about making smart investments today that help avoid bigger costs tomorrow."

Supporting a safer Saskatoon

The Climate Action Strategy is designed to help the City manage climate-related risks and strengthen community resilience in the face of growing climate impacts, including heatwaves, flooding, wildfire smoke and severe storms. By looking forward, the Strategy supports efforts to protect public safety, maintain reliable City services, safeguard critical infrastructure and improve readiness for increasingly frequent and severe weather events.

Actions identified in the Strategy include: measuring indoor air quality in civic buildings to help ensure safe public spaces during wildfire smoke events; considering climate risk in City planning and infrastructure projects; and supporting homeowners in improving the climate resilience of their properties. The Strategy also supports good municipal governance by providing a long-term framework for risk management and informed decision-making. Taking proactive steps today can reduce future risks, help avoid costly disruptions and repairs, and better position Saskatoon to respond to changing conditions.

Supporting a healthier Saskatoon

The Climate Action Strategy guides climate action that supports public health, quality of life and community well-being. Climate-related impacts such as extreme heat, poor air quality from wildfire smoke and severe weather can affect residents in different ways, particularly vulnerable populations. By helping the community adapt to changing environmental conditions, the Strategy supports healthy, livable neighbourhoods while reflecting Saskatoon’s local needs, priorities and evolving circumstances.

Actions identified in the Strategy include: partnering to increase food security and local food production; installing solar panels on City-owned lands; and maintaining, renewing and growing the urban forest to help improve air quality, provide shade and enhance community well-being. Together, these actions contribute to more resilient neighbourhoods and a healthier city that is better equipped to respond to future environmental and public health challenges.

Supporting a more prosperous Saskatoon

The Climate Action Strategy supports a strong and resilient local economy by encouraging responsible, forward-looking planning and stewardship of public resources. By acting today, the City can help reduce long-term costs, protect community assets, strengthen economic resilience and ensure responsible use of taxpayer dollars. Acting proactively can help avoid expensive repairs, service disruptions and emergency response costs while positioning Saskatoon to take advantage of future opportunities as technologies, government policies and funding programs evolve.

Actions identified in the Strategy include: updating design standards for City parks and green spaces to reduce watering needs; developing local reuse and recycling markets to reduce waste and create markets for reusable products; and supporting industry in preparing for future energy-efficiency requirements for new homes and buildings.

Residents can learn more about the Climate Action Strategy and access the full document on the Environment, Utilities, and Corporate Services Agenda or visit the project’s Engage Page for further details.

City Administration proposes utility-based funding model for multi-unit garbage service

July 29, 2026 - 4:15pm

UE26-12202
July 29, 2026 - 4:15 pm

The City Administration recommends a shift to a utility-funded model for multi-unit residential garbage service, moving away from a property tax-based funding model. A report will be presented to City Council’s Standing Policy Committee on Environment, Utilities and Corporate Services (EU&CS) next Tuesday, August 4.

“Transitioning to a utility-funded model is an important step toward a more transparent and equitable waste management system,” says Brock Storey, Environmental Operations Manager. “Under the proposed approach, properties would pay directly for the garbage services they receive, based on bin size and collection frequency.”

At present, multi-unit garbage collection is funded through property taxes, meaning all property taxpayers contribute to the service regardless of whether they receive it. The City currently provides weekly garbage collection to over 80% of the Saskatoon’s multi-unit properties. Under the proposed model, the costs of collection, disposal and program administration would be recovered through utility fees, rather than through property taxes. This change would align multi-unit properties with the City’s curbside collection program which shifted to a utility-funded model for garbage in 2024.

If Administration's recommendations are endorsed by Committee, they will be presented to City Council at its meeting on August 26. If approved, Administration will begin developing the utility framework, billing systems and customer communications required to support the transition. The new funding model is recommended to take effect in January 2028.

Easier access ahead: new MyProperty service to bring City notices online this fall

July 29, 2026 - 3:33pm

CF26-12252
July 29, 2026 - 3:33 pm

The City of Saskatoon is preparing to launch MyProperty this fall.

MyProperty is a new secure online service for residents who prefer convenient digital access to their official City notices.

Once launched, MyProperty will allow residents to view, download and manage their property tax notice, assessment notice, utility billing and more online in one convenient location.

Residents will find their secure MyProperty access code printed on City of Saskatoon utility bills, their 2026 property tax notice, 2026 Assessment notices (including Supplementary, Amended) or in eBill utility billing notifications starting August 1.

People who want to use MyProperty will need to keep their access code to set up their MyProperty account when the service launches. Paper notices will continue for residents who prefer them. No action is required to continue receiving paper notices.

Important notice for current eBill customers: your service is changing this fall

This fall, My Utility Account will be replaced with MyProperty. If you receive utility bills through eBill, no action is needed right now.

  • Once MyProperty launches, you will need to create a new MyProperty account to access detailed account information; however, you will continue receiving your account balance digitally until your MyProperty account setup is complete.

  • Your secure MyProperty access code is included with eBill notifications starting in August 2026. Keep it handy. You will need it to create your MyProperty account.

Additional information about MyProperty will continue to be shared as we move closer to the fall launch.

Saskatoon Transit bylaw approved by City Council

July 29, 2026 - 12:23pm

TC26 - 12229
July 29, 2026 - 12:23 pm

Saskatoon City Council approved a new Transit bylaw today. The bylaw establishes clear, modern rules for using Saskatoon Transit and helps create a safer, cleaner and more comfortable experience for riders and employees.

“The vast majority of our customers use transit respectfully every day,” said Michael Moellenbeck, Director of Saskatoon Transit. “This bylaw sets clear expectations for everyone using the system and provides additional tools to address behaviours that impact safety, accessibility and the customer experience.”

The new bylaw replaces the existing fare bylaw and introduces a single framework covering fares, customer conduct, Transit property and enforcement measures.

What the approved bylaw covers:

  • Fare payment and pass use;
  • Customer responsibilities while riding transit, including keeping aisles clear respecting operators and fellow passengers, and protecting Transit property;
  • Authority to address unacceptable behaviour and, where necessary, remove individuals from Transit property or restrict future access; and
  • Administrative enforcement measures and appeal processes

The bylaw also establishes Saskatoon Transit fares and fees, including fare rates effective September 1, 2026 and future fare adjustments scheduled for January 1, 2027.

Line marking continues on Saskatoon roads and crosswalks

July 29, 2026 - 10:00am

tc26-12246
July 29, 2026 - 10:00 am

The City of Saskatoon continues to work on repainting lines on roads and crosswalks, ensuring we can all move around the city safely.

Line painting began in the spring and includes crosswalks at over 1,000 intersections and other road markings getting a much-needed fresh coat of paint.

So far, crews have finished painting over 80 per cent of crosswalks, including almost all school zone crossings. Crews will begin painting other roadway symbols in August, as well as painting the crosswalks in school zones for a second time.

The City’s line marking truck paints the equivalent of nearly 600 kilometres of lane, centre, and edge lines, and is on track to complete painting the whole city by the end of the paint season.

Please use caution and take care when you encounter a painting crew on the road. They’re not blocking your path – they’re making a safer one. Let’s do our part to keep them safe, too, and respect work zones.

ST26-12236
July 28, 2026 - 11:00 am

Residents can now more easily share their feedback on City projects and initiatives with the launch of a modernized Engage Saskatoon webpage. The upgraded page makes it simple to explore current engagement projects, stay informed and provide feedback on initiatives that matter the most to you.

"We're excited to launch a modern platform that makes it easier for people to discover and connect with City projects and share their perspectives," says Carla Blumers, Director of Communications and Public Engagement. "Public feedback plays an important role in shaping City programs and initiatives, and this new online hub creates more opportunities for residents to provide their input.

Designed with users in mind, the new Engage Saskatoon webpage offers a streamlined experience and allows the City to provide a variety of ways to participate, ranging from surveys, discussion forums, interactive maps and polls. Community members who choose to create an account can follow projects that interest them, receive updates and personalize their engagement experience, making it easier to stay connected to City initiatives and opportunities for public input.

A new Development Applications Hub also brings together engagement opportunities on land use and development applications in one convenient location, making it easier for residents to find information and share feedback.

Engage Saskatoon is designed to be both approachable, accessible and easy to use, supporting the City's commitment to meaningful public participation on civic matters.

"Whether you live, work or play in Saskatoon, you’re invited to create an account, explore current opportunities and help shape the future of our city," Blumers says.

Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre reopening delayed

July 23, 2026 - 1:30pm

CY-12228
July 23, 2026 - 1:30 pm

The reopening of Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre has been delayed and the facility will not open in fall 2026 as previously anticipated.

During inspection and testing of the pool, deficiencies were identified that must be corrected before the project can proceed to pool tiling and finishing. The contractor is addressing these issues. While a confirmed reopening date is not yet available, the City is currently projecting a winter opening.

“While we know this update is disappointing for residents and user groups who have been looking forward to the reopening of Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre, it is important that the remaining work be completed properly before the facility opens,” says Dan Willems, Director of Technical Services. “We appreciate the patience of clubs, user groups and the community as we work toward reopening the facility.”

When Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre reopens, it will continue to serve a range of community needs within the City’s aquatic system, including training, instruction, club programming, public swimming and other aquatic recreation opportunities. The work underway is part of a major renewal project that will modernize key aquatic and building systems, improve accessibility and help ensure Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre can continue serving the community for years to come.

Reminder: recycling depots are for residential use only

July 22, 2026 - 4:00pm

UE26-12226
July 22, 2026 - 4:00 pm

The City's recycling depots have recently been experiencing higher-than-normal volumes of material, resulting in some bins reaching capacity more quickly than anticipated. Administration is exploring options to address the increased demand at the depots.

Commercial businesses and organizations are reminded that the City’s recycling depots are for residential use only. All businesses and organizations in Saskatoon are required to separate and divert recyclable materials. Businesses are encouraged to access the Recycling Guide for Businesses and Organizations for more information on diversion options at saskatoon.ca/businessrecycling.

Residents can help maximize available depot capacity by flattening cardboard boxes and only dropping off accepted recyclable materials. Unaccepted materials and items left outside of the bins are considered illegal dumping and create additional cleanup challenges and costs. If a depot appears full, residents are encouraged to visit another location or return at a later time.

For more information about recycling depot locations and accepted materials, please visit saskatoon.ca/recyclingdepots.

Full closure of Wanuskewin Road beginning week of July 27

July 21, 2026 - 2:00pm

TC26-12223
July 21, 2026 - 2:00 pm

Beginning the week of July 27, Wanuskewin Road will be fully closed north of 72nd Street for approximately three months as crews complete open-cut pipeline installation work on the Biosolids Pipeline Corridor Project.

During this phase of work, Wanuskewin Road will be closed in both directions at 72nd Street, and there will be no access through the work zone. Drivers travelling between Saskatoon and Highway 11 will not be able to use Wanuskewin Road and will be detoured via Louis Riel Trail (Highway 11) and Idylwyld Drive.

Northbound traffic on Wanuskewin Road will be detoured at Marquis Drive, while southbound traffic from Highway 11 will be required to use alternate routes to access the city.

Access to the new development area, including Kohut Avenue, Eidem Link and Shoquist Avenue, will remain available from the south using Wanuskewin Road up to 72nd Street.

Pedestrian and cyclist pathways north of Marquis Drive will remain closed throughout this phase of construction.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and follow all posted detour signage while this important infrastructure work is completed. We thank residents and commuters for their patience.

For more information on the Biosolids Pipeline Corridor Project, visit saskatoon.ca/biosolids. To learn more about current road restrictions and construction projects, visit saskatoon.ca/construction.

University Bridge to remain closed to general traffic for near term

July 17, 2026 - 1:30pm

TC26-12213
July 17, 2026 - 1:30 pm

After discussions with emergency services and the Saskatchewan Health Authority, the decision to open the University Bridge to general traffic has been delayed temporarily to ensure that consistent emergency access to the hospitals and related services remains the priority. The current pedestrian access routes on the bridge will remain in place.

The Contractor has been making good progress, and the City will continue to work with them to complete Stage 1 work on College Drive from the bridge to Hospital Drive/University Drive. Opening the bridge to general traffic requires integration and coordination between the construction work on College Drive and the rehabilitation work of the arch on the bridge. Additional information on when general traffic will flow across the bridge will be shared as details are confirmed for both construction projects.

A reminder that the Royal University Hospital and Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital can still be accessed by patients and visitors. Stage 2 work from Hospital Drive to Cumberland Avenue has commenced on the north lanes of College Drive with one lane in each direction being accommodated on the south lanes.

The City thanks residents for their patience and understanding as these essential infrastructure projects continue and we ensure that public safety remains the priority.

Next phase of Downtown Water main Lining project begins the week of July 20

July 17, 2026 - 10:00am

TC26-12208
July 17, 2026 - 10:00 am

Crews will begin excavating and rehabilitating the water main on 25th Street East between Spadina Crescent East and 1st Avenue North the week of July 20, as part of the next phase of the Downtown Water main lining project

This phase of work is expected to continue through mid-to-late October, weather permitting and subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.

To reduce impacts, excavation crews will strive to maintain traffic flow along 25th Street where possible. However, temporary street and intersection closures will be required at various stages of the project, and detours will be in place.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, follow posted signage and use caution when travelling through the work zone. Detours will be in place to guide motorists around the work zone.

Residents and businesses within the work zone will have limited road access during construction. Temporary No Parking signs will be posted at least 72 hours before any street closures and will provide the most up-to-date information on closure dates and times.

Work on 4th Avenue between 24th Street and 25th Street is also continuing. Watermain replacement and storm sewer installation remain underway and are expected to be completed by mid-August, weather permitting and barring unforeseen circumstances.

Overnight road resurfacing beginning on McOrmond Drive

July 17, 2026 - 9:00am

TC26-12206
July 17, 2026 - 9:00 am

The City of Saskatoon would like to remind residents that overnight road resurfacing work will begin the week of July 20 on McOrmond Drive from Willowgrove Boulevard to Addison Road (northbound) and from Nelson Road to Kerr Road (southbound).

To help reduce overall impacts on motorists and traffic flow, crews will begin work each evening at 7 p.m., with the road reopening each morning at 7 a.m. throughout the duration of the project.

The work is expected to take approximately eight days, weather permitting and subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances. Residents in the area can expect increased noise and vibration while heavy equipment is in operation.

Road resurfacing involves removing the old, deteriorated asphalt and replacing it with a new layer of hot mix asphalt. This treatment is used when the asphalt surface has reached the end of its service life, while the road structure beneath remains in good condition.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down, follow all posted signage and use caution when travelling through the work zone. The public is also encouraged to watch for a project schedule graphic on the City's social media channels outlining the planned phases of construction.
