City hosts community events on National Day for Truth & Reconciliation
Tomorrow (September 30) is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The City will respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Calls to Action by hosting the following Reconciliation activities open to all Saskatoon residents.
Rock Your Roots Walk for Reconciliation
This walk is one way to honour Residential School Survivors and demonstrate your commitment to making this an inclusive community with equal opportunities for all. Participants are invited to wear an orange shirt. Organizations are invited to carry a banner pledging their commitment to Reconciliation. The walk is family friendly.
The event begins at CUMFI (315 Ave M S) at 10 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m. in Victoria Park near the "Where Our Paths Cross" art installation (across the road from 422 Spadina Cres W). Participants are advised to arrive early as the event site is expected to be busy. For timely updates, connect to the Rock Your Roots: Walk for Reconciliation Facebook Event.
Afternoon of free community programming
In response to TRC Calls to Action #66 (deliver programs on reconciliation) and #89 (reduce barriers to sports participation and ensure programming is inclusive of Indigenous peoples), the City will host an afternoon of free programming at Cosmo Civic Centre between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. Activities include drop-in public skating and cookie decorating as well as Indigenous hoop dancing and fiddling performances.
