In early 2010, City Council approved the South Caswell Concept Plan to help guide redevelopment once the transit facility is vacated. The vision for the redevelopment of the Caswell Hill bus barns is to establish a unique mixed-use area within the city that will provide additional parks and open spaces for residents, create a range of affordable housing options, and support the local arts community. The intended outcomes of the project were to address several key issues including: the current land use incompatibility, the deficiency of local park space, the desire to establish a ‘creative hub’ for the local arts community, and the need to establish stronger linkages to Downtown.

Recently completed environmental (phase I and phase II) and structural assessments have shed new light on the re-use potential of the buildings and land. The plan is being updated based on community input in light of the new information provided by the assessments, and to ensure potential plan revisions still meet community goals and priorities.
